RE: snow ski ideas for hobbico 60 trainer
Unless you are flying off packed snow, your'e probably better off building from scratch. I find any commercial skis are too small.
This is particularly noticeable on trike trainers. Engine down thrust really seems to bury the prop. fredsedno |

do u have any suggestions on size

RE: snow ski ideas for hobbico 60 trainer
For a 60 size trainer on soft snow, I'd try about 4" wide x 14" long for the main gear skis and a little (75%) smaller for the nose ski. Just make sure that it can't reach into the prop.

These work good for me. Can make them what ever length you wish. Made from 2 1/2" PVC gutter pipe.

I've used skis and I've used floats on the snow. Unless the snow is near perfect, floats have worked better for me.

On some of my scale planes I have used the Dubro Skis with good results. Me personally no longer fly in the winter anymore, I don't like snow blindness or numb fingers, so I'll keep the winter flying for the young folks. Pete |

Go with the floats. Be sure to balance the plane by putting the weight on the FLOATS. Then when you return to wheels the plane is already balanced for the wheels.

The dubro ski's work quite well on a Kadet LT 40 with a 46 on it. You just have to have the front of the skis locked about an inch above the back end when they hang free in flight. That's what prevents nose in in soft snow.

The dubro and most ski kits come with a spring that locks into a wheel collar that is how the nose of the ski is adjusted up or down.

RE: snow ski ideas for hobbico 60 trainer
I just finished my own set and am going for test flight right after work. I have a milling machine, lathe and drill press so it made it easier. I ended up copying a full scale design using aluminum and acable system using springs to hold the tips up in flight andfor landing, once pressure is applied to rear of ski the spring expands letting the skifollow the ground. Ialso machined in runners to helpthe ski hold its line. If anybody is intrested I can post pics and even make a set foryou, they don't come cheap though. The nice thing is I can make whatever you want as faras size or shape.
