Servo flutter
What are the causes of servo flutter?

RE: Servo flutter
there are many, large gaps at the hine line, flex in the control linkage, over sized control surfaces most flutter happens at high speed but can happen any time

RE: Servo flutter
Sorry I was not clear on my description. This flutter is on the bench. I have replaced it and the new one works fine.

RE: Servo flutter
the pot in the servo is going bad

RE: Servo flutter
"Flutter" is what happens to a control surface when a combination of bad things happen. What you are probably referring to is servo chatter or wander. The servo doesn't cause flutter, aerodynamic forces do.

RE: Servo flutter
Any special reason why you replaced the bench??? How'd that fix it??.....just pulling your leg.. couldn't resist it.

RE: Servo flutter
I am guessing this is without the engine running?
I had an issue with an elevator, when flying the tail would jump around when in straight level flight. So I tried to get the surfaces to wiggle on the ground and figured out with full throttle the elevator would flutter. It turned out to be prop wash flexing the surface and not the servo issue. The servo wouldn't move at all. I havent fixed it yet but at least it isn't a servo issue. I guess in a way I am asking have you checked everything? Including swapping the servo to see if it was the servo? Good Luck with your trouble shooting |
RE: Servo flutter
Problem solved with a new servo. To clarify, the flutter was while the plane was on my bench in my shop without engine running. Probably a bad pot as noted above.
Thanks for all the input, Gary |
RE: Servo flutter
doesn't a dirty pot also cause this? I have one that has the jitters at the low throttle setting and was going to open it up and clean and see if that helps. I'm not sure how it cold get dirty being sealed and all but thats what I'm hoping.
