Superstar folded
A fellow at the airfield had his hobbico superstars wings fold at the center after pulling up from level flight. We looked at the wreckage and two of the guys said their superstar planes had steel pins at the wing joiner and screws holding the vert. fin on. This one didn't nor did it have any way of putting pins or screws in. He said it's a new ARF but is it possible he got an older version off the shelf before they made strength improvements on th plane? Were superstars known for folding at the wing joiner?

RE: Superstar folded
They where not made for high G maneuvers. I have seen many fold they wings including the one I trained on.

RE: Superstar folded
Trainers always get subjected to high-G pull-outs. That's the nature of training. I don't know why so many ARF trainers have wings that are so heavy yet weak. Really bothersome.

RE: Superstar folded
I'd place a complaint with Hobbico if I owned the plane. [:@] It's obscene that a major manufacturer would build such a shoddy product.

RE: Superstar folded
Some earlier versions of the Superstar had the wing halves permanently joined with a sturdy wood joiner epoxied in. For extra support a thin metal strap could be screwed across the joint back near the trailing edge. Others have also fiberglassed the joint. Makes for more inconvenient transport but there is more strength. Either way, avoid those high G manuevers.

RE: Superstar folded
How old was this superstar? Mine is a little over two years old. It has the steel pin and the bolts for the stab as you said.
