Can you change engine position( vertical to horizontal, horizontal to inverted) with out affecting the plane. Ihave a piper cherokee with a Saito 50 mounted horizontally I want to mount inverted so the engine want hang out the side of the cowl

yes. if your using a squar engine mount you'll notice no matter which dirction the you place the engine the crank shaft doesn't change

Yes, if there are centerlines already drawn on the firewall. If not, you need to draw them based on your existing engine mount. Then just line up the engine's crankshaft centerline with the intersection of the horizontal and vertical centerlines on the firewall.

Dont forget, you may need to lower the tank if you invert the motor. The center line of the tank needs to be between 3/8" below, to even with the spraybar in the carb.

Agreed the tank to carb distance is oh so important. If you don’t get tank/carb relationship correct you will spend more time fiddling with engine and dead sticking than flying.

Inverted engines often act like they have a terminal case of PMS. It is so bad they are going to die from it.

A horizontal mounted engine runs about as easy as a vertical mounted one.

You are asking for trouble with a inverted engine.
