4 cycle and 2 cycle engine comparison
 

I want to purchase a plane that is rated for a 1.20 - 1.50 4 stroke engine. I have a 1.20 but prefer to power my planes with engines at the top end of the recommended range. I can get a hold of a 2 cycle 1.08 but I don't know how this engine would compare to a 4 stroke. What 2 cycle engine would compare to the power of a 1.50 4 stroke?

1.20 2 stroke and a 1.50 4 stroke are pretty well matched ... if you could do such a thing. The engine you will use should depend on if you want power or speed. if it's speed you're looking for, go for the lighter higher rpm 2 stroke. If you want more torque with a larger prop and lower RPMs, like for 3d, use a 4 stroke.
A 1.08 2 stroke, on a sport plane would be kind of comparable to a 1.20 4 stroke if that helps any. It's not easy to compare the 2. It all depends on the application, and what kind of performance you're looking for.

Why not just go gas? You'll recoup the cost of the engine with the money you save in fuel

(Those big 2-strokes will drain your wallet fast at $14 bucks or more per gallon)

Something in the 32 - 36cc range would be great

The way things are going at the pump nowadays, it won't be long before GAS modelers will be switching to GLOW - because GLOW is cheaper :)
