Pull pull setup
Does anyone know if you can have the servo off from the fuselage centerline on a pull/pull rudder set up. I bought an arf off ebay that is set up for a side by side servo install for the elevator and rudder servo, but came with pull/pull cables for the rudder.

UcanDo-46 works well.

Looks nice, but the kit is kind of a speed plane so I would like to keep everything out of the wind.

RE: Pull pull setup
I might just save the pull/pull cables for another plane and just go with the standard pushrod setup.

RE: Pull pull setup
Crossing the cables would not have any odd effect when installing the servo off center line of the plane.

RE: Pull pull setup
I've never seen a pull pull set up with the servo off of center...seems like one side would be real slack when the contol surface was moved to the longer cable side......

ORIGINAL: jetmech05 I've never seen a pull pull set up with the servo off of center...seems like one side would be real slack when the contol surface was moved to the longer cable side...... Its ok you cant push with a cable anyways as long as there both tight at center what the none pulling cable does when the other is under tension is of no importance. Steven |
RE: Pull pull setup
It'll work fine. As long as the servo is mounted around the wing area and not directly ahead of the tail. If you do the math, you will see that there will be some difference in the amount of throw you get from left to right, but the difference will be so small that you won't notice it. Before you go and mount the horns, do a search on here for "Ackerman". It's important to know about when setting up a pull-pull system.

RE: Pull pull setup
Hi!
I have used fishing wires on many F3D pylonracers on both elevator and side rudder. Servo off set doesn't matter. |
RE: Pull pull setup
I have the servo off center on my float plane and the cables cross each other on the floats and it does'nt make any difference.

Does a pull-pull setup save any weight?

RE: Pull pull setup
I have been using different weights of coated stainless steel fishing leaders. Today I made one up using 20 LB. coated cable. It slides right on through the holes on my 2-56 rigging couplers. I'm using 2-56 on this system because the plane is only A 60 size Extra. With bigger planes I go to 4-40 but the system is made exactly the same. I'm running the wire through some small plastic tubes that are normaly used as push rods. You don't need the tubes but it sure makes life easier if you install them during the build.
I have this wire leader in different weights and thickness, bought at any fishing supply shop. |
