Looking for Non Tapering Engine Mount
I'm looking for an engine mout for a 60-sized, 2-stroke, glow engine. I want the non adjustable, non tapering arms, nylon kind. Great Planes used to make this type of mount. All I can find from Tower is the tapering and/or adjustable type. Dave Brown and Hays have tapering arms. Any suggestions? Thanks.

that mount was in great planes kits in the 70's early 80's .they replaced it with the adjustable mount.you will either have to use an adjustable,a non adjustable tapered,or a pair of T type mounts or go with aluminum.

The SIG individual beam mounts are the only ones that I know for sure are not tapered.

You might try the mecoa.com website and look at the CB mounts. they may taper but are aluminun, and some can be ordered pre-drilled.

Thanks all. I guess I'll just use the dremel to create a flat spot on the taper. I don't like the engine mounts now available.

No doubt to allow a flat for a nut to land on. I myself prefer the modern glass filled type of mount (actually the Dave Brown rounds and using the self tapping Screws as supplied. Using the proper sized pilot drill hole as indicated on the package works very well indeed and reliable.

I like to use Hayes mounts as they are lighter than the SIG separate mounts and I can (potentially) swap engines without having to re-drill mount-to-fire-wall holes. I also like to drill-n-tap the mount holes so I don't use nylock lock nuts on the back side of my engine mount bolts. If follows that I don't need a flat "bottom" surface to seat the nuts - though I thoroughly understand the need for a flat bottomed engine mount! |

Non tapered are better for two reasons:
As John said, so you can put a nut and washer on the bottom. Easier to drill a vertical hole in for the mounting bolts/screws. Good Luck, KW_Counter |

Nut and bolt?? Why! Much easier to tap the mount and not bother with a nut that is hard to reach ... This is how it's done. A to B... |

Jan - A big thumbs up! No matter how often I try it's never that easy. ;)
I believe the key is to have a drill bit of appropriate size (for the tap) and long enough to allow you to keep the hole vertical & square to the mount. Thanks |
