Pin Switch

Does anybody have any idea where I can buy Pin Switches. I believe thats what they are called. It's a switch that is operated by inserting a pin to turn off oron. Thanks for your help

I have made my own by buying a push-on/push-off switch at Radio Shack.

Mount it inside the fuse near the side and drill a small hole that you can push a pin, Hex Wrench or small screwdriver through

Do they make one that the pin stays in it while the plane is parked.
I have seen this but did not know if it was store bought or if someone had home made it

I don't think so, but there's nothing preventing you from gluing a pin to it.

However, if that's what you want, you can just mount a regular switch inside, drill a hole through the lever and run a wire through it like the illustration below, or get one of these

Or this (same thing plus a charging jack)

You could use an RCA speaker jack. The kind that turns off the speaker when you plug in your head phones. Then just put an RCA plug in when the plane is not in use.

Do they have just the pin/flag switch or do you have to use the regulator. I tried to look on their web page but they are having tech problems with it.

Stay away from Radio Shack speaker units.
This is probably off subject but appears to be something someone could use.
Now, if I could just find some inexpensive banners to attach "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT"

im using it with a super regulated reliaswitch.... i believe smartfly makes a regular pin/flag switch that you dont need a regulator

Metallica I talk to Fromeco and Troy Built both today and they told me their switches would not work for just a on/off switch That they only work with the regulators. I was hoping they would work because I liked the look of them

STRAIGHT MINIATURE POWER JACKS
Designed for AC-DC power connector and/or battery charger connections for electronics
equipment.
Split center, center pin, for more secure connections. Mounts in .312" diameter hole in
panels up to .125"
MOUSER
STOCK NO.
502-712A 712A E .100"/2.5 760 Solder lug 2.40 (10)
502-760 760 A .100"/2.5 712A, RAPC712X, Black Tip, Black Handle 2.37 (10)

The parts list at Mouser is above.
For 5 bucks you have a good stout switch.
How do you think I would feel if you used one I made and it failed for any reason?
You could acquire the parts and have your local hobby shop do it probably for the price of giving them a set of parts.
Sorry.
You can see this is not my original design but another person's and he felt confident enough to publish it in 2002.
Mine work great without any additional electronics attached and it is "just a simple switch". I found the pin flags at Fromeco $2.00 each.
Thanks for reading this.

I do not like using these on IC powered models as I have had problems with vibration and intermittent contacts. Fine on gliders though.

RE: Pin Switch

I also had problems with vibration "bouncing" the contacts in my 1/2 A Pylon Racers.
I solved the problem by substituting a stereo type jack in place of the monaural ones we had been using. Simply wire it so the two sets of contacts are in parallel with each other. This solved the problem for me and the engines we're using turn over 30 grand. The plug that turns off the system is also wired to act as the charge plug.
