Did you cut the former to move the tank back, or did you just build up to the lip of the former?
Also what's it like now trying to get at the wing screws? Total pita or not too bad? I thought about moving the tank back too, but didn't know about going that far back and interfering with taking the wings off and on.

I just built up to the lip, I used a piece of 10mm balsa to block it up in front of the former and the light ply is glued to the wing tube as well as at the bottom. I made a tongue and groove sandwich of lite ply at the back which the light ply shelf keys into. That tank isn't going anywhere! I cut the screws down to 3/4" but yeah its a pain. I'm going to redo it like on my QQ 102" stock setup. I'll run a fixed post out of the wing bolt hole into the fuse with a hole thru it and use an oring/washer/clip to secure the wing.

husafreak,
On the wing mount, what you may want to try is instead of a fixed post out of the wing with a clip on the inside, is to use a bolt out of the wing and a wing-nut on the inside. That way, you can tighten it if it loosens.compresses over time.

If you have not tried the SFGs yet, I highly recommend them. I tried them for the first time last week and found that KE was incredible and harriers were much more stable. Without, I needed about 2/3 to 3/4 throttle to sustain KE flight. Now I start with 1/2 and then reduce the throttle and increase the rudder to get into a very slow and stable high alpha KE all the way down the field. I've done that with some of my smaller planes, but it's really cool to watch a larger plane just float by in slow motion! And even nicer, they are practically invisible in flight. Nice design Quique!

Great idea! I may try wing nuts, at least it would be easy to try. A real problem for me is how to drill a 1/16" hole in a bolt? FWIW I never had any loosening on my Yak and it's over 2 years old, that is a great system but done with aluminum rod, not a threaded bolt. I haven't flown my 69" yet but beginning with this plane I am going to embrace the SFG's. I got a "Tensor" foamie biplane when they first came out and I never liked the way it flew so I never tried SFG's again. But just last week I bought another foamie from Lee Ulinger of "Foamtana" fame and he recommended his LUM which has SFG's as a way to reach the next level of proficiency. I'm definitely at the point where being able to fly patterns while in a rolling harrier is the next major hurdle for me and I'm beginning to admit I need the help of SFG's as a way to get there!

Here's a link to an old favorite Foamtana video. By the way the kid flying in this video flies at my field. I asked him to fly my 102" and tell me why I was getting wing rock in harriers. He flew 5 min hardcore down on the deck 3D and lo and behold no wingrock! Luckily he told me the secret... "just stop it with aileron inputs". Two years later I'm still working on that... nuts.

RE: New Somenized (TM) 69", Yak-54
I am planning to move my tank back to the wing tube but had two questions:
- Is anyone using the stock tank in a pressurated (Cline / Iron Bay) system? Just wondering if I need to get an upgrade. I don't want it to bust open [>:]
- For those that have done this, can you still get the wing bolts in without issue? I see that Husafreak did this and the picture looks like it may be tight to get my hands in there.
- I'm going to see if a narrower fuel tank exists so the wing bolts are definitely not an issue. Does anyone know what capacity the stock tank is?
Thanks,
Alan

It seems QQAC is going out of buiness according with their website. They said they will keep the costumer support till march, 25, and Chief Aircraft has bought their whole inventory.
So you shall find parts with Chief for sure, but is better hurry up, dude...!
I am going to get one YAK 69" this week. I already got one 102" and I become very sad after read in their website they are living us...
I love QQAC planes and I will miss them fore sure...

I have an immaculate "69 QQ Yak built summer of '08, w/ servos recommended in manual, Duralite battery/regulator, and OS 120 engine. Never been flown. Hangar queen. Any interests?

Guys, I am taking a look at the manual and I think it is a little bit overdone about the servo issue prior to JR brand.
I have using Futaba 3305 (124oz) on my 3D airplanes even powered by OS 160 and I never got any problem.
This servo is a non digital metal geared servo and what do you guys think about use it on this plane? I am gonna use YS 110FZ on this bird...
The JR8411 is too God damn expensive...

As the Carnival Barker has long been quoted: "Ya pays yer money, ya takes yer chances."
I have found the 8411's to be quite a good bargain.
You probably will get away with the analogs but at a cost of flight performance.

That's true!!!
But the problem is I have to pay here in Brazil 5 times of what you paid for yours 8411 in USA. [:@]
If I could get the plane in the air with those 3305 in the beggining, I will be able to slowly keep changing the servos (maybe one per month) while having fun. If not, I will need to let my airplane in the box till I can get all servos I need...

RE: New Somenized (TM) 69", Yak-54
well i have used the same 3305 in countless planes.. and im positive that it will be fine in this plane! however the only real draw back to the 3305 is it is a little slow and consumes lots of amps! so make sure your battery is large and can supoport the current draw..
on another note the digital servos are very nice and do have great holding power however there are some higend analog servos are far better than the cheaper digitals.. so digital does not equal better!!! as for the s3305.. i would not consider it high end...
a good economical digital servo for that plane would be the hitec hs-5625, or possibly the hitec hs-5475..
no matter what you do the plane will still be fun!

At five times the US price I too would use what you have ______ and I wouldn't consider a servo at that price.
Personally I am not too impressed with the budget priced digitals.
I tried a single day flying the 821's which came with the DX7. I immediately returned to the 8411: 9411; 3421's.
The 821 is a decent servo but I wouldn't rate it higher than that.
Stay where you are and enjoy life!

i like that advise .. my oppinion of the ds-821 is the same.. i would limit it to a trainer!!! most budgit digitals are kinda crappy.. the ones i mentioned above primarly the hs-5625/hs-5645 are not to bad ! especialy in smaller planes in the .46-.120 size range anything bigger i would put somthig better on ..
but i agree .. fly what ya got.. those 3305 are far more than the yak needs..

Thank you, guys!!
It's all I needed to hear.
I will put my plane together with those 3305. In this meantime I will fly very soft (I'm still in the brake in process of my 110FZ) and I will slowly change the servos. Maybe I will go for the JR8411 or Futaba S9155.
I really need to try a more precise servo, cause I am into those 3305 for a long time.
I will keep the plan of change one servo per month and I will try to get them directly for USA to save some bucks.
The good new for me is this plane needs less one servo than they usually do. So I will be ready for huge 3D stuff one month earlier!!
