Control throws - 85" Yak
Riza - I am looking forward to my first flight on a second hand 85" Yak. I am having a hard time believing that either the low rate or high rate control throws recommended in the manual for elevator are appropriate for the first flight situation. The CG is set just slightly nose heavy of the mid recommendation. Is 10mm up and 10mm down sufficient elevator throw for landing? Look forward to your response.

RE: Control throws - 85" Yak
On my 85" the low rate is 35mm at the widest part of the elevator with 40% expo, that's how I like it and it seems to do everything I want, high rate is as much as I can get without driving the servo's beyond the manufaturers recommended range, with 60% expo this seems to give the same feel around the center stick position, to the point that I landed on high rate recently, only realising when I put in up elevator on the ground run to keep the tail down and noticed that I had just switched out of high rate.
This is one beautiful flying plane, you will enjoy it I am sure.

RE: Control throws - 85" Yak
I am new to the QQ 85", so take it with a grain of salt..
I am using degrees instead of deflection..
High rates are +/- 55 deg on the ele, low is +/- 30 deg.
It sounds like 10mm is a little on the low side..
As for landing, my plane was setup by an experienced IMAC pilot, with the CG aft of the range. I am landing with throttle only.. She just floats right in all by herself..

My apologies for not responding sooner but sometimes the everyday rigors of life interfere with more enjoyable activities. It is interesting though - from krazc I would assume his response means that 10mm up and 10 mm down is sufficient - but you know what assumption is th mother of. BaldEagle is recommending three times the low rate throw suggested in the manual and davensocal recommends five times that suggested in the manual. With that mix of feedback I must admit I am still undecided! Thanks all for you input.
