Yes, its my own diver, I started about 6 years ago, built my own firbreglass model, SAM 1 then evolved to our production version SAM 3. Mine does have some of the Paramax features but most of it was trial and error.
I started with a chute from RC Skydive USA, but did not get the performance I wanted then started to develop my own canopies and Riaan and I teamed up togheter about 2 years ago when BOB aka Goldenknight reffered him to me when he enquired here on the forum for help. He produces the chutes and I do the divers. Our aim is to produce an affordable diver without compromising on quality and performance, seeing our currency is to weak to import from other countries overseas.
Here is a picture of SAM 2 taken in 2007, I'll have more detail on my website, I dont want to give away to much here, spoil the surprise
.
Had a look on your website really nice, actually undestand the Dutch close to our Afrikaans

They say the proof is in the picture.
We had our anual Oudtshoorn scale fly-inn this past weekend. Got 14 divers in the air but only 13 opend. Newbie did not pack his chute to well.
So our record with proof stands at 13. We did it with only 3 planes. A 48% Decathlon taking six and two 3rd scale Piper Cub's taking four each. Total of 17 people. The croud was amazed, so were we.

Hi Pieter,
The Decathlon is actually a 47% percent size with a 4,6m wingspan. It will carry 10 jumpers easy, but we ran out of "drop boxes"[:@] It climbed at about 1/4 throttle all the way up!!
I recall you said you did 13, but only if you show the photo!!
We'll try and do better next year, by that time the number of divers would have grown too!!
The diver who's chute partially deployed stil took longer than a minute to hit the ground, does that then count for 14 in the air? [>:]
Regards,
Fanie

Well done to my fellow South African RC Skydivers. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]It is unfortunate that we couldn't made the trip to Oudshoorn this year. [sm=cry_smile.gif]It would have been a total of 17 jumpers. [sm=shades_smile.gif]Lets see next time Fanie.

Riann,
Thats too cool!
Love that Decathlon, whats it powered by and how much does it weigh.
Did you by chance calculate how much weight it was carrying in skydivers.
Just flew my new 12' Telemaster (new to me anyway) this afternoon, purchased from Paul AKA flyby8
My previous one lost a wing strut in flight and had a very hard landing, when you have no wing or tail they come in very fast and hard.
Had to relpace crank and bearings, and weld mounting ear back on case of the DLE111

Gary that's a nasty one. Sorry to here. We have a 1/4 scale cub also with a DLE 111. Takes four divers. Plenty of power. The Fly-inn(Oudtshoorn Scale) we made the mass jump is only for scale planes and other scale rc stuff. So we were happy to have the Decathlon to help take up divers.
The owner of the Decathlon is not with us. He is from the northen parts of SA. So I don't know all the detail. We took up six SAM divers. They way about 1.2kg each. The motor on it is a 215 if I'm correct. You should see the display flight they do. This is crazy. It rolls, loops and knife edge. No lies. Could not believe it myself. Taking up the SAM's they only fly at 1/4 throttle, so the SAM's don't get left behind.
I am scratch building a sr telemaster. Only started now. We do not get the ARF in SA. I believe the telemasters make excellent drop planes.
Greetings Riaan

The Decathlon is a TBM Kit (Troy Build Models) or Pilot RC they both market them. The 47% Decathlon is powered by a 215cc ZDZ, swings a 34/10 3W prop, I dont know the all up weight, but it has a very low wing loading and is a great aerobatic permformer. You can see the photo Riaan Posted it uses very little rudder to sit in the Knife Edge. It will carry 10 RC skydivers easially the struts is very strong bi-oval aluminium. As Riaan said we climbed out at 1/4 throttle as it has so much power it will blow the divers out of their boxes. I have received video footage of the record dive and will post it up on YouTube as soon as I finished editing.

Fanie

Amazing, looks like gravity have no effect on that Decathlon.. a pity I could notbe at Oudshoorn this year.
How do you guys mount the brackets for the skydivers on the wingstruts? I'm re-doing a 3m Cub I'm using a tug plane, and while at it, could do the mods as we think of getting into RC jumping as well.
Cheers

Hi Bundubasher, e-mail me on [email protected] and I'll send you the pdf file for the drop box construction which was designed to attach to the struts. Welcome aboard!!
