Is RC8.2e the only 1/8 scale buggy kit that you actually build?
Hey guys,
Looking for an 1/8 scale electric buggy kit that you actually get to build (NOT RTR!).
Searching the internet for this is really vague. The word "kit" is used very loosely, other than the Team Associated RC8.2e it's very unclear as to which if any of the kits you actually get to build.
So are there any others out there other than the RC8.2E?
Also, I'm seeking recommendations on what else I will need... battery, controller, tires, etc... primarily this will be for bashing with my son, maybe someday I'll get into racing, but that's way secondary. Any suggestions?
Thanks
P.S. I'm hoping to make a mad max inspired body for it using Solidworks and a 3D printer... muaaahahahaaa

I did not check but expect that Serpent sell a few electric self build 1/8 buggys (probably plenty of others too)...but I do not totally understand the aversion to RTR or ready built cars, you can of course take it apart and put it back together again.
I can not help with your battery/esc questions...but someone else will post and help you with that.

Thanks anthoop
I want a non-RTR because building it is half the fun for me. An RTR would be a total spoiler, even if I took it apart. No fun
The other thing that is great about the non-RTR... at least the RC8.2e... is that it comes with many upgraded parts that the RTR doesn't have. I'm wondering if other non-RTR kits are similar
What does one call a non-RTR kit anyways? Maybe if I knew the correct terminology I could search for it.
Thanks

Like nearly every site I've seen, Serpent makes no mention of whether you have to build it or not. Such a basic question, nobody answers it. Kind of mind boggling

I would imagine the terminology to be "kit" or "self build"...but yes some do not mention.
Anyway I had a bit of a look round and found a few:-
Losi 8ight- E 3.0.... http://www.modelsport.co.uk/team-los...roducts/378708[h=1][/h]Mugen MBX-7R ECO...http://www.mugenseiki.com/spec-mbx-7r_eco_e.htm
Durango DEX408... http://www.team-durango.com/race-cars/dex408/
X-Ray XB8E... http://www.teamxray.com/xb8e/
Kyosho MP9e... http://www.amain.com/rc-cars/kyosho-...30897b/p257088
There are plenty more...I just did a Google search "1/8 electric buggy kit".

hi djnelsen , there are some great buggy kits that you build difference is usually in some of the parts are upgraded to aluminum or carbon fiber
parts because usually these are the ones that guys build for racing on various tracks with their electronics and or nitro motors of their choice.
these are a little better than just a rtr out of the box but you can always upgrade in parts of your rtr , these kits your build do take a long time
to build 8 hrs to 12 hrs depending on your skills and tools but this is the way to go i think for kits than rtr `s the kits are usually expensive 500 and up to 900 bucks the kits i know guys are building kyosho mp9 tki3 ,mugen mbx7r eco , tekno eb48.2 3 nb48.3 losi 3.0 team associated rc8.2`s xray `s , hot bodies`s and a few more be it electric or nitro, but these seem to hold up the best with racing by time you get the cheaper stuff you will have to buy the better stuff for racing that will hold up on rc track racing you need good batteries a good esc tekin , castle , etc.
the right kv motor 1900 to 2200 kv and right gearing so you do not cook the motor or esc or batts it is the same for nitro kits too
well hope i helped you

it's going to be difficult to find a kit in the basher grade genre... most kits are loaded with upgrades targeted specifically for racers.
For a modest price, I would consider the InTech BR-6e: https://www.dialedhobbies.com/rc-whe...79-1600-detail
It's an emerging brand that is proving itself to be very competitive and durable in Florida and Texas.
If you'd like to go with a more established brand, then my next pick would be a Tekno EB-48:
