Why didn't you go for the kit version of the Inferno?

3 reasons immediately come to mind (there were more at the time)

I didnt think I was going to junk the GX 21 right away

I thought the prepainted white body looked good on the web, horrible in person (stick on flames, etc)

I knew I would probably swap the radio but liked having the idea of a cheapie for another car I barely use.

ah so you've spent this over time? I though you did this all before breakin. I didn't understand sorry. I have at least that in my buggy (includes radio though). It's pretty easy to get to a total like with any buggy. New engine, new radio, new servos, new pipe, new tires, new body -- it adds up quick.

It is over time and over breakin.

I bought the kit January 5, and I am finishing it up now. I have still not broken it in. I have a baby and I am in school, so my spare time is limited. That is why I am trying to build this thing all at once. When it warms up I want to minimize my time on the workbench and maximize my time driving, since I will plainly admit I am no where near as capable as this car.

Jan 5th til now. Did you rob a bank or summat? I hope not a newbie that's gonna jack this next week. Sounds like you should have gone for the K3 outright not the RTR as now you have a load of substandard (race wise) spares lying around. Can I suggest Ebay to recoup some of your loses? Ppl always want spares. But it should be looking good by now. Any Pics?

thats a great start buy hate to say this. You should have gotten a metal spur gear and a good pipe. The gx21 isan't that bad of a engine. I race with the same buggy in 1/8 sports man and do a good job. The engine holds a tune real well and isan't to much power(if you have never drove a 1/8 scale). You have a great start but befour you race get a metal spur gear and change the screw that hold the motor to the chassis because they suck and will come loose.

I already have a metal spur gear and K2 clutch. I should have mentioned it. I tried to bulletproof it all at once. No pics yet, I am 95% there.

I'm building an inferno too and started with a rtr sports. Paid $425 for it and sold the engine and radio so I ended up paying $305 for the rolling chassis. I can spend about $400 before I reach the price it would have cost me to get the k3 and I'll probably have a better car in the end....gonna put some hardcore ti parts and get the lunsford ti kit. The only kanai parts I think I'll get for it is the front end, universals and maybe some diffs...I like the idea that the all aluminum diffs are lighter so I'll probably keep those.

My father got a Hitec 645MG steering servo, some blue OFNA MBX tires, nice shock towers, braces and steering block from Team Bluestar on ebay, and I have a spare Ofna center metal gear diff that I can fit in and I sold him an OS .21 RG and he'll need to get engine mounts and he'll have a fine buggy, and he should get a new body for it too.

So far I think he spent $600+ CDN tops for everything so far.
