It's going to be at least another three weeks before JAGRC has another batch of Nitrous bottles in hand, but when they do, I'm getting one of their JAGGAS RC Nitrous kits.
I don't think I'd normally pay $110 for something that is so new and unproven, but this kit is free.
I redid their website in exchange for a free kit.
I think I might have let them off cheap, but I really wanted a free kit.
I'm hontesly a little worried that the Nitrous might kill my engine so I'm going to mess around with it on my old Hyper 8-Port Race. Nitrous isn't something you'd race with of course and it even violates your AMA membership (shh don't tell em please). It is, however, cool.
I don't think it will be on one of my buggies though. For fun, I've been building this "sort-of-scratch-built" RC from spare parts and an aluminum plate for a chassis. The idea behind the project is speed. Super-light, super-powerful and geared to go at least 60 MPH are my goals. The Nitrous fits that theme perfectly. No, the Hyper 8-port Race isn't a screamer like the Sirios or the C5, but with some quality porting from a friend and this Nitrous kit I should be able to push this monster RC to it's limits. I fully expect that something is going to break before it hits 60 MPH. No big loss though cause it's all spare parts I had accept the $13 123mm dog bones. It's all just for fun -- a winter project.
Anyway, I though I'd share that I'm going to have a chance to put the RC Nitrous kit through it's paces. It's a controversial topic and spending your hard-earned money on something like this without hearing some feedback is scary, so I'll be the guinea pig. I'm going to set up a "speed trap" so I should be able to report with and without Nitrous top speeds. I also plan on posting some videos.
-RobH
P.S. The weather around here has to warm up to at least 50 degrees first and I'm also not done with my project yet (close though). Just don't get your knickers in a knot and ask me a week from now why I haven't tested it already.

Sherak you got me in trouble AGAIN (twice in one week). Just coz I said Rob was mad for trying Nos. I don't think they'll like it when they find out what FMA stands for.

I read the unedited version too grahama. LOL. It might be a nutty idea, but what's life if you don't get a little extreme once in a while. It's not like I strapping it to my new Rex P5 or something.
Also safety first. If it gets even close to 60 MPH, it's going to be a deadly so I'm going to take my percausions. I already have a failsafe on it. I also wont be testing in the street or anything. There is a huge parking lot I have in mind. If it crashes, it's only going to damage a bunch of used RC parts and nothing else.

Why no more than 60. Grahama and I tested out the Hybrid today. Well he bottled it at about 80mph and that was only 1/2 opening the throttle.

60 MPH seems realistic. If it works out that it can go even faster, I can move up from the 14T bell. I put long slots in the chassis to accomidate any size clutch bell. The spur however is stuck at 51T and there are no options there (OFNA Ultra Diff). I'm currently going to use tires with a 3" OD (From a Super Nitro RS4). I could bump up the outside diameter of the tires and go faster too.
60 is a lot faster than most might think.

Have you thought aboutconverting to a Hyper 7 Center diff (and housing) as then it wound have the 46T spur down to the option 44T. I know grahama has 18T bells and a 46T spider in the center. I know coz I'm sat next to him.

I used the MBX Diff because I had a spare one. The screws holes on the bottom are kind of weird. On the one side they are farther apart than the other side. Does the Hyper 7 diff have a similar pattern? On my Lightning Pro, the screw holes are the same one both sides.
Oh yeah, never mind. I'm actually lucky that this thing has 51T -- I wish it had more! I'm only using one diff. The drive train is short and sweet: 14T Bell -> 51T spur/diff -> dog bones -> wheels. In an MBX buggy, it would go 14T Bell -> 51T spur/diff -> front/rear diff -> dog bones -> wheels. Oh yeah I'm using 1/10th scale wheels (3 inch outside diameter).
Because I ditched two diffs, that makes it geared insanely high. I wish I could run a 13T bell. I have a 13T but I ran into clearance issues with the brake pads. If I had anything smaller than 51T spur, it would be geared too high to be practical. As it is, I'm worried it's going to weigh too much or that I might have to push it to get it going. That would suck.

So I take it the engine is mouted sideways. The smaller spur on a H7 would increase speed. Oh and the screw spacing is even for the front and rear diff mounts on the Hyper. So yours is a 2WD, driving the rear? Many donuts? What lube are you running? I'd say about 10K.

Front wheel drive w/ rear wheel steering.
I haven't run it yet. It should be interesting. LOL I just barely finished putting all the stuff on the chassis this morning. The last thing to do is trim the chassis to shape. I also need to get some on-road tires/wheels.
grahama89, man you crack me up. I hope you post here more often. LOL
oh yeah, yes engine mounted side ways and for diff lube I don't know yet. Steering really isn't a priority so I may just go with something heavy like 10K or something.

Yeah thanx. I learnt it all from Smakheed. It was his Idea to build the Hybrid after he saw I had the spares for near enough 2 buggies in my pit box. Rear wheel Steering? It's gonna be twitchy if you can get it up to speed. But it is certainly different. Maybe you could make it into an off road Fork lift, it's already got the steering. LOL

Yeah with the steering, I'm going to put my exponetial steering way low so it doesn't wiggle much on me. The pivot point is going to make it turn fast -- I know. Interesting is right. I think I'll video the maden voyage incase I smack it into a pole or something the frist time out. It's just something fun to make when it's too cold out to run Nitro.

Ok then. Please let us know how you get on with the laughing gas. I dont think its gonna matter how tight your steering is, rws is by design unstable and likes to flip at any speed.

That could very well be true. If I can't get my pile-o-junk RC to go fast enough, I can put the Nitrous system on one of my buggies. The speeds will be much slower because of the weight and such but it will still be a guide post for performance difference with and without the kit.

Hey Rob, you think your Nitrous Kit will allow you to achieve these kinds of speeds [link=http://videos.radiocontrolzone.com/200+mph_nitro_cwh.zip]fast car vid (2.2mb)[/link]
And to be honest I dont know what the FMA is, somthing Fun somthing, maybe?, it was the end of the working day, you know the score, my head isnt to clever at the end of the day
lol......

LOL tether pole cars. I've heard about them. A freind of mine was modding a 10cc heli engine for one once. I've never seen them run before though. Thanks.

hahaha yeah the cable snaps goes flying hits some unlucky person in the head at 200 mph lol, that would be crazy, or if the guy fell of that stand the cable slices him like butter.

All very curious...
Riddle me this.
How does this system get extra fuel into the engine? A seperate line feeding fuel directly into the carb throat?
We all know the idea of NOS is to chill the air going into an engine so you can pack more air/fuel charge into the cylinder.
How will you keep the head on with the rather large increase in effective charge in the cylinder?
