Default Help needed from those with Hyper7 PBS

I just went and picked up a new Ofna Hyper7 PBS w/starter box, part #14325. When I got it home and opened the box, I noticed it has a black head and pull start motor. The box and the Ofna website clearly state it is a supposed to come with an 8 port non-pull motor. All of the pics I have seen of the 8 ports have a purple head, and has "8-port" printed on top. This one also has a plastic purple cap on the black head.

Anyway, I took the car back to the LHS and the guy opened another box.......and it was the exact same thing. Black head, pull start motor. These were the only two he had left, so we couldnt check any more to see if they were the same. He said he is going to check with Ofna on Monday to find out whats up, but I thought I would see what you guys that own these cars have. I attached a photo of the new car. Thanks in advance for any help, I'm really confused as to what I've got.

Edit: Sorry guys, I figured it out. I have the PCR edition which comes with the pull start/black head. Althougth I'm still not sure which motor I have.

Are you gonna keep the PCR? In my opinion it's a better buggy than the PBS.

Well, I honestly havent decided. Actually, this kit is a PBS (pivot ball suspension)PCR Edition. I'm just not sure if the black head motor is in fact an 8 port. Every pic I have seen of an 8 port is purple headed. Also, I didnt want a pull start. One other thing, is the lay down servo stuff is in a bag. I was under the impression that the PCR edition had them already setup laying down. Oh well, its good to have choices. It just makes me wonder why they would put a pull start motor in a kit that comes with a starter box. Either way, for $419 I still got a great deal.

Go to www.ofna.com and go to RC kits and go to the PCR. You can get all the information about it on there. The starter box that comes with the PBS i have heard doesnt even start the engine until the engine is broken in. On the ofna site, it says the pcr has an 8 port.

From what I have read (as I am about to purchase one) [link=http://www.acehardwarehobbies.com/2.2/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=18_33&products_id=5526]LOOK HERE[/link]. That has the info you are looking for. My understanding is the PBS PCR edition still has the 8 port, but has the purple cap which is new for that RTR kit and says its for extra protection, it also says that the intake pipe is upgraded. Go to that site and look for kit and read the captions below the pics.

I just got the PCR last week. Its a pull start with a black head and a purple cap. Also came with started box. I like the pull starter it was the only way i could start it. I hate the laydown servos. A real pain in the ass. Had to change the stearing and do some other work in there made it real hard also the laydown servos dont really sit much lower. Maybe 1/4". Does anyone want to sell me their PBS stand up servo hardware?

I went to the Ofna site and found the PCR edition AFTER I bought the car. I figured as long as it was an 8 port motor, I'm still a happy camper. BUT, after I got to checking the parts list that came with the car, I checked the part number for the piston and sleeve. The number in the manual that came with the car says 53006. Soooo, I went back to the Ofna site and checked that number. It says "PISTON & SLEEVE, HYPER 21" for $74.95. Ok, so I scroll down and find part number, 53026 which says " PISTON/SLEEVE, 8 PORT HYPER" for $110.95. [] So, at this point I am totally confused as to which motor I have. I guess I will give Ofna a call on Monday.

Ya know I think if I had it to do again, I would just get the Pro kit and slowly build it up as I like. Although I havent used the starter box yet, as expected, it seems really cheap and is made of plastic. I read somewhere that it isnt strong enough to turn the motor over before its broke in. Also, there a bunch of them for sale on ebay......there must be a reason for that. I plan on eventually running my own Airtronics CX2P FM anyway, so wont need the radio. So, I basically will just be using the chassis and motor thats in it.

I didnt see any instructions for the starter box, but it looks pretty simple. There is a small cover underneath. You need to pull that off with the two screws, then plug in two 6 cell stick packs. Once installed, you should be able to push down the front plate and it should spin the wheel. Hope this helps.

Seventy-

Don't worry......Ofna changes the PBS a few months ago to the black head w/ purple cover instead of the purple head. It is the same as the purple head, both are the 8 port. Also they went ahead and put a pull start on the PBS because people were having so many problems getting thru the break in process with the stock starter box. Once you get over 10 or so tanks thru, the stock starter box should be fine if you have some good stick batteries for juice. I have a PBS purchased this summer with the purple head and my buddy just purchased one a couple months ago that came just like yours....aside from the black head and pull start they are identical. You're going to love the PBS.......I know I do.

Thanks for all the replies. I went ahead and just pulled the head off to see exactly what it was. Losi99, you are correct, it IS an 8 port. Ofna blew it by packaging the PCR RTR kit in the regular PBS box. All they did was throw a sticker on it saying "PCR Edition" and "kit includeds laydown servos". There was no mention of a pull start, or the differnt head that does not say 8 port. Thats why I got so confused. Anyway, I'm awaiting a new OS 20E carb because of all the problems I've read about the stock one. Should be a blast once I get it running and it stops raining. [sm=sunsmiley.gif]

I did not read all the replies, so sorry if this is repeated.

A while back they stopped shipping the PBS or even the PCR edition (is jus tthe PBS with laydown servos) with the purple head and shipped the black head instead with pull start. It is a Hyper 21 8 port with pull start. Extremely powerful motor. They did this because the amount of complaints they had with the cheap starter box they ship with the buggy. It is not able to turn the motor over until after break in.

Hope that helps! They just never updated the website with this. When dagass got his PBS he emailed me asking if mine came with black or purple head. This was months and months ago they started this. Mine was one with purple head and no pull start. After what I went through to break the damn thing in I wish it came with a pull start.
