OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
How is this buggy?..I want to get a buggy sometime in the near future. I want to spend about 300 dollars tops for an RTR. Would this be a decent one for the amount I want to spend?..I wouldnt want to race with it, mainly just bash around a little bit on some rough terrain. Does this have a pullstart? thanks

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
Ok thanks for the reply. I did a search which I should have done initially and found that it seems to be a great buggy for what I want to use it for. Many owners have upgraded the steering servos in their buggies, would I need to do this for just bashin around? What is the flaw on these servos that makes everyone upgrade them?..thanks

You can find cheaper one on ebay, but i do not know what they are priced there right now.
Tower is out of stock. I have seen brand new one, sealed box, for 309 with free shipping.
Great buggy!!!!

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
basher, there's an MBX Pro on e-bay right now for $315.00 and a few hours left (no one has bid yet [X(]. Great price from what I've seen. I'd bid on it myself, but i'm not sure I'm quite ready to buy one yet....still researching . Also, I was just wondering if anyone knows whether you can use the 9.5 MBX parts interchangeably with the Ultra MBX Pro parts. On e-bay some are just listed as "MBX" and don't specify the model. For example, would 9.5 MBX shocks or towers work with the Ultra MBX Pro version???
Thanks for the help.

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
The Ultra MBX Pro is a great buggy. I acquired one recently and its been great so far. Takes quite a beating and I have yet to break anything on it (besides the recoil starter which I fixed).
Ill probably be getting a 2 speed tranny for the buggy soon.
If you get one, definitely get a better steering servo, something with at least 90 oz of torque. The 645mg by hitec is a great deal ($40 , 130 oz torque). The stock steering servo is simply not powerful enough. The stock throttle servo seems fine and it brakes well.
The 9.5 while looking similar is an entirely different buggy. The parts are NOT interchangeable (except for possibly one or two items such as the wing mounts). I believe that all the Ultra parts are interchangeable, as all the hyper are within that series, as is the same with the different 9.5 cars.

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
I got my MBX from BARGAINRC on ebay - they are located in Tennessee. The price then was $309.00 and that included shipping to lower 48 states. A great buy.
If they do not have anything for sale that meets your needs - call them - a friend of mine got his MBX that way.
OH - they are great buggies for the price and can give anyone a run for the money at the track. Last weekend I watched a guy with an LX Pro (had a hyper 21 in it and no other hop-ups) smoke the HYPER 7s!!! It is not just the car - it is the driver too!!

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
If i'm not misteken, $349.99 with shipping included for the 9.5 is an amazing deal right? Is the 9.5 as durable as the MBX for bashing? Would it be a good buggy for someone who is completely new to R/C, or would the MBX be better? Also, are the stock servos (especially the steering servo) in the 9.5 better than those in the MBX. I'm thinking, if i'm going to be spending 40 bucks on a new servo for the MBX Pro anyway, then i might as well go ahead and just pay the 349 up front and get a better buggy all around (or would the servos in the 9.5 need to be replaced anyway?). Is this reasoning sound? Thanks for all your help. (Also, i know it's not much, but the 9.5 comes with a carry case too!)

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
By the way, the seller didn't say if it was the 9.5 MBX, C-Hub, or Violator....and the way the car looks on e-bay from the photo doesn't match what is on OFNA's website. I e-mailed the seller (bargainrc) to ask him which model it was. Here's the e-bay item number for the 9.5 if anyone wants to take a look and let me know which model they think it is : item # 3179127085. Also, his add says it comes with a force .26 and OFNA's site says all 9.5's come with .25's.........?[&:] Thanks for the help, you guys are a great resourse for a newcomer to this hobby!

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
If you look on the ofna home page and click the kit matrix link on the right it shows all differences between the rtr and others. The one you are looking at on ebay is the c-hub. I too am torn between the mbx pro and the 9.5. It looks as if the 9.5 is better, but I too am waiting on feedback before I order.

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
Not sure which servo comes with the 9.5 - but if is comes with the low end Airtronics radio - then you are getting the stock steering servo. I know some of the guys I pull trigger with have the Hyper 7 PBS and they all came with the stock steering servo.
So - if you are on a budget - then I would look at the cost of a steering servo and include it in your total. for my money - the MBX is all you need if this is your 1st buggy or even you 1st nitro vehicle. IMO - get the MBX - start saving for a better steering servo and start thinking about either an upgraded radio or even a starter box.

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
Thanks slicks, it does come with the same radio as the MBX Pro, so I guess the steering servos would be crap on the 9.5 too. Too bad. Just out of curiosity though, what are the main differences with the 9.5 and the MBX? Is the 9.5 more geared toward racing than bashing? Any other components on the 9.5 that would be better than on the MBX? Would the durability for the 9.5 be better or worse than the MBX? Thanks again...

RE: OFNA ULTRA MBX PRO
Wow Robz, thanks for letting me know about that kit matrix, looks like the only differences between the 9.5 and the MBX are the types of suspension (and an extra millimeter on the shock towers). So what exactly is the difference between those two suspensions? Or let me put it this way, would there be any noticeable difference between the two types for a beginner?
