Default How to Open Diffs Hyper 7

How do you open the diffs in the Hyper 7 and put the diff oil in them. Is it a long process and worth it? Will the stock gunk in there not hold up on the track? Est. time for a newbie? Thanks

um there is a saying goes that there is a first time for everything and you are going to have to learn some day anyway.
just my opinion.

only took me about 2 hrs to finish the whole process the first time. It is definately worth it though... and you will learn more about you car. Just remember where you took all the screws out... so you can put it back the same way.

easy ! take the linkages off your throttle servo, un do the 4 screws holding your diff in, pop it out, un do the 4 screws that hold your diff together, dont touch the one on the outside of the diff on the side, its a locking screw. have a look inside. put the diff back together minus one screw. get a syringe full of whatever weight silicone oil and plunge it in through the hole. screw the last screw in and voila ! id advise using a bit of prepsol light grease while you have it open, these diffs leak when you use them so the grease will stick and protect your diff once the oil runs out.

I just did this for the first time last week. I just undid the 4 screws on the diffs (starting w/the front) I just turned it upside down and poured in the oil then I turned the car upside down so that I could mount the diff back on without the oil spilling. Screwed back in the screws then moved on to the center and basically did it the same way placing the drive shaft back in and moving on to the rear. It wasn't very difficult, though it was tricky with the front but became easier as I went along. Maybe there is an easier way but that's how I did it and it wasn't too bad.

QUESTION: when you change the oil do you just turn it over and drain out the old oil or do you guys take it apart and clean the parts and re-oil them?????

for bashing id lock your center and front and put a bit of grease in the rear... you want that front diff to pull !!!

Okay for the Center spider gear I opened it up and pured some 7k wt lube in, then it all came out the screw holes..LoL Even though I knew this would happen but the 7k is so thick it thought it might stick until I got the screws in. Not the case.
So I just put all ths crews back in except one and then squeezed as much lube in the hole as I could. Then i closed it up. Is that they way to do the spider gear? Or is there another way? And I may have over-filled it..is this bad? or will the excess just leak out? Let me know so i can change it..Thanks

Yep, that's the way I did it. But on my eariler post I didn't know you had to seperate the housing and pull out the "differential" seperate that and thats were the oil goes....major noob mistake....Anyway, I have taken the whole car apart last week and just put it back together last night taking my time to learn the in's and out's of the ride (much better understanding now). I have now put oil in all the diffs (taking them completly apart) and I am looking forward to trying the car out on the track again. The last times it was a bit$h to handle it was all over the place...hopefully it wasn't me....and it had more to do w/the fact that it only had the factory grease in it.

The other question I still have is are you supposed to put oil in the actual housing were the diffs. sit in. I put the car back together and put some oil in the front and rear housings...figured it wouldn't hurt it. Please let me know if this is correct or not and how you guys/gals do it. Oh, how much do you fill the housing part??

Wait...If im not mistaken..that Is exactly where I put my lube in the front and rear. I didnt opening the actualy diffs up and put anything in there. I just pulled the four screws out and took out the whole thing, filled 3/4 of the way on the part of the diff where the small gear meets the big one, and then slapped it back on the buggy. I dont see why or where lube would be needed inside the actual pieces of metal called a diff as there are no moving parts in there...or are there? I thought it was just a shaft with gears (teeth) on the end. Now im all confused.

Just take the screws out...it's not as hard as you think. If you've got it out you've really done the hard part. Once you take the screws out and pull the top off that's it. Put the oil in, close it up and tighten the screws...don't tighten too much...I twisted the head off of one of the screws on the center diff. by over tightening it...they are delecate so be carefull. Other than that it's not hard at all.

Yea thats exactly what I did. Someone just has me all confused and had me thinking I had to open the actualy diff shaft ends up and put lube in there and that made no snese to me as there are no moving parts in there and cant be opened.
