Default Clutch Bell - Help Please

Hi,

I'm going to be replacing my clutch bell (gear stripped) and I want to know if anyone has any alignment tips to be sure the gears are meshed properly?

Thanks

I use that paper trick too, most guys do, but I double the paper and hold the gears firmly together, it works well.
One thing that pager doesn’t mention is longitudinal alignment
Make sure the bell and spur are parallel, if not it can cause over heating of the bearings thus shortening their life.

p.s. Don’t forget the “Loctiteâ€

Oooh yah
I think that revolved around the clutch-bell retaining screw.
Good comedy to say the least

EVERY METAL TO METAL SCREW? are you just wait for the "I can't get my head off" post. Now I only Lok tite the lower steering post screws and the others I use star washers or other retaining washer.

So grahama89
"the others"
What about the outdrive Hub set screws?
the countersunk motor mount plate screws?
Diff screws?
Screws that hold the Knuckles to the C-hub?
Center diff posts?
Etc, etc,
all the places where a locking washer can't be used?
How do you keep all those from falling out?

Nothing like investing in good tools and good quality screws to make a good mechanic

To get a proper gear mesh, insert a piece of paper between the pinion and diff. Its easy, and there's no guessing involved. [8D]

While I don't use any locktite on my engine bolts or engine mount to chassis bolts, I do use it on every other metal to metal connection. I even use red on the setscrews that lock the universals to the input/axle stubs. I wish someone would teach folks how to properly apply locktite though. I work on a lot of cars for other folks and i see way too much threadlocker used on at least 99% of the cars I work on. While this is a real pain, it's not near as bad as the dolts that put locktite on the steering knucke and clutch retaining screws instead of in the holes the screws will go in to.
