OK well this is probably the most annoying thing you can try to do in this game and it either goes easy or straight to the bin. So you probably know you need to wind the spring up but not the string.leave that loose through the hole. Now using a thin screwdriver, catch that loop on the end of the spring and try to seat it in the groove in the cover.
Now if your having difficulty locating it the you can undo the brass grommet for more access. t
This is a ***** of a job but it will go.
Just make sure there are no kinks in the spring or it'll jam up all the time and dont tighten the screws too much (they clamp the wheel against the case). Threadlock is a must here.

Ive done this twice now
Once when the cord broke....
And once when the spring snaped......Which was not easy to do but i shortened the spring by 20mm bent a new bit on the end and its still going now....FINGERS CROSSED
But like Grahama89 said "This is a ***** of a job but it will go" he is right
Just take your time and Good Luck

Last one I did took about 2 hours of ducking from springs into the eye and swearing quietly to myself

recoiling that spring is uber-immpossible. Actually the instructions that came with one I bought detailed using tape to hol it together before re-installation into the base. This didn't work. Good Luck, its a royal pain in the ass.

LOL they're easy. You need to try the springs I deal with at work. These things are 9 foot long, 1/4 inch thick, are rated at 400 lbs/ft and have KILLED when they snap.
