hello, here's a question for you racers out there...
what is the race weight for a 1/8 buggy???
and yes, we have different brands out there, kyosho, ofna, xray, mugen.....etc., etc.
and i'm sure some people have secrets on how to shave the weight off, or add it on....
but does anyone know what an average RACE READY 1/8 buggy w/a .21 motor SHOULD, weigh...?
just curious....
so anyone w/some knowledge on this subject...i'd like to hear from..
weights for .....
kyosho kanai 1 2 3 777
ofna hyper...etc.
mugen mbx5
xray8

My 777 SP1 race-ready weighs in just under 7 lbs. My Ofna Hyper 7 about 7.5. The Xray is the lightest buggy on the market right now with the 777 and Mugen MBX5 about the same. Ofna's being much heavier.

7 1/2 lbs for an XB8 to almost 9 lbs for a fully ladened Hyper 7, with the 777 being lighter than the MBX5 but both just over the XB8.

Alot of customization. too much to list. Just think of everything on the car that can be removed or sized down without effecting performance and you'll get there quick.

OK...so when you say 7lbs for an x-ray, 7.5lbs for a kani/777 to 9 lbs for an ofna, is this dry...?
cause cars are listed in mags, manufacture specs at 7lbs, 7.5 lbs. etc....
sooooooooo.........
i'm ASSUMING, this is w/out an ENGINE, PIPE, SERVOS, ELECTRONICS, AND BATTERIES.....right???
or are your cars weight 7.5 pounds ready to go w/engine electronics, etc......
if so...how do you get them so light???

RC Pro minimum 8th buggy weight is 7lb 9oz race ready w/out fuel.
IFMAR minimum 8th buggy weight is 7lb 6oz race ready w/out fuel.
I'm not sure if IFMAR and rc pro use the same standard for "race ready", but I think they do.

Most mags simply parrot the manufacturers spec sheet which can be anything they want it to be since there is no existing manufacturing standard they must comply with. The makers with a serious eye on organized racing will pretty much report an honest full up weight while a company like traxxas won't even list a weight at all.
