RE: $500.00
well if you do get one off ebay dont get used crap. ive had a few issues w/ the used stuff. get new- and a reg.777 would be a great start. there is a thread on this page that talks about it. it will be what you want to race and it only needs a few hop ups. but the XB8 is a GREAT bug IMHO. but it costs a bit more.

RE: $500.00
The k2 and k3 are the Kyosho Kanai 2 and Kanai 3.
Which buggy to recommend depends upon whether the 500 should include everything to get raceready, or if you plan to spend more than that.
The XB8 is better than the hyper7 or jammin, but it will cost more than 1000$ before it is race ready. To a beginner the Hyper 7 PBS should be great. I haven't seen the Jammin yet, but it looks promising.
And I agree that it normally ain't wise to buy used. There is often a lot that needs to be changed due to wear or abuse.

RE: $500.00
I think Ultimate Sells the MP777 (standard) for about $310 but you have to call them. Would need an engine and radio. Could put an OS RG in it, ebay pipe, get a used starter box of ebay, get a radio(maybe new) , tires, and be close to your $500. I'm not a buggy expert but I"m wanting one the same as you and have been researching way to much..
I'm in the same quandry about used that some people have mentioned. It's hard to know what you are getting. I like to see lots of up close pictures. Especially the bottom plate if they claim it's barely used. Ultimate sells the K2 for $410 last I checked. That would push you way over your budget but would be a really good car. You have to call Ultimate for their best prices.

This auction looks alright but it still has a couple more days on it. Prices seem to balloon right at the end of an auction:
Who knows if it runs as good as the seller claims?

RE: $500.00
Then get the Hyper 7 PBS and a better steering servo. JR Z650M should do it.
The Hyper is a well proven buggy, that can take serious abuse and at the same time it is competitive at a track.

RE: $500.00
I knew it was just a question of time before someone would suggest the xtm. But while this buggy may be good for bashing, it isn't competitive in racing, which was the aim in this thread. Beside that it seems that there is quality issues with the xtm/rex-x and if you get a bad one it is really bad. My LHS discontinued the xtm/rex-x since half of them came back.
