The STS D21T is nothing more then a factory modified D21B with a turbo plug. When I get a modified STS I am getting the D21B it is cheaper and I do not have to run the high dollar plug.
also the .21b has a cast flat top piston, the .21T has a domed/dished billet piston... the .21T also has quite a bit more pinch from factory..

Surely it hasn't got more pinch that would be ridiculous...

I agree as my D21B had any more pinch new you would have never gotten it started. [X(]

OK you said the D21T has a machined piston from billet is the billet forged billet? The reason I ask is being a motorcycle mechanic and machinist for over 35 years I know the forged expands more then cast. When I bore a cylinder for forged pistons I have to fit them up looser then cast. Never had a STS D21T but do have the STS D21B and the 28, which I have not even taken out of the box, yet as I am so tied up racing my buggy. To start a D21T for the first time must have to hook two car batteries in series to get 24 volts to get the start box to turn it over. After over 3 gallons on my D21B with a chrome top Ofan 12 volt with the one big electric motor have to loosen the glow plug to get it to turn over when cold I would hate to think what it takes to turn the D21T over. i have both the .21B P/s and the .21T P/S i will try to get some pics to show you....but when you push the piston ito each sleeve, the .21T binds up much earlier then the .21B.

I am unsure of the .21T piston material, it is a machined piston of a different material then the .21B, someone told me it was billet, and i never bothered any to really check LOL my bad !! But regardless it is a much different piston, the fits the sleeve a whole bunch tighter... my .21T is ridicoulous

I agree the pistons are different as you can tell that when looking at the replacement parts on STS Micro Engines.com. I believe you; I just will never get a T if they are that much tighter as I have enough problems starting my B with over 3 gallons on it. You say you have both P/S does this stand for pull starter and if so you most have customized them your self as they do not offer either with a pull starter stock. Yes the 30, 28 and E21 can be bought stock with a pull starter. Even a cast piston has to be machined. Please do not take any of this wrong just making conversation and trying to learn all I can and thanks for all the input.

I will stay with my D21T as long as STS makes them, it is the best engine i have ever bought. I broke mine in according to the instructions on racernine.com and it has been working great ever since. As for turbo plugs, i have only used two since break in, 1 for break in, and the 2nd is still holding up.

NitroBurn1 do you race? How many gallons do you have on your STS D21T? Not sure if I will ever run the D21T but I sure know my D21B has done all I have asked of it on the track and might one day get the RBmod D21B. I all so run the Hyper 8.

No i dont race, but i consider my bashing to be pretty rough. My engine has 2 gallons through it now, i hope it will go for at least 2 more. I was going to get the D21B, but my brother bought the T, and it was way better than my force 8 port, so i got me a T also. I just figured for less than $200 for a modified how could i go wrong, plus i had some turbo plugs left over from my orion .28 wasp that was toast after about 5 tanks, the dang bushing in the conecting rod disintegrate, and ruined the whole thing.

All I do is race and I just started running a big series here in Georgia, which is 8 rounds at 3 different tracks. I have well over 3 gallons on my D21B and still have to loosen the glow plug when I start it cold. Going to get another STS but the race budget right now only allows for another standard D21B. If I can get up the difference I would like to get the RBmod D21B. But my stock D21B has no problem keeping up with much higher priced engines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
