Default Best Beginner Buggy, Hyper 7 PCR, or PBS?

What buggy would you guys recommend for a beginner to buggies, but not to nitro. I have an onroad 1/10th now, and I love it to death, but I have an empty lot by my house that I dont think they are going to build on, and its covered with small dirt mounds, and I would love to make it into a track.

Without a radio/engine, what 1/8th buggy would you say would be the best of value for around $400-$450?

Also, a few more Q's, how fast to these things go with a good engine? How durable are they?

thx

durability.... I have a Kyosho Mp7.5 inferno that has been my race/basher buggy pretty much bone stock and I have only broken a wing.

speed with a good engine will vary in the mid to upper 40 mphs. even possible to break into the 50's

Fun factor... I am an on road racer at heart, and have a extremely hopped up T-maxx for bashing. the Maxx has done little runnign since the buggy came around, and though I will always race on-road above off road, the ability to get air and scream across the dirt is just too much of a thrill to miss out on.

as far as buggies go for entry level.. if you are going to bash and potentially race look at the sportwerks mayhem, some of the ofna buggies or by far the best i would say would be the mp777 (not the special one version) you can find them for about $350.00 to $400.00 for the kit. a good starter engine that I have seen guys have real good luck with is the sportwerks .21. reliable and fast.

if you want a more high end engine, there are tons to choose from, it was hard to make a choice for me. I looked at the RB ws7, the picco omega x7-r, the top p5, the novarossi 421, and ended up going with the OS VZB V-Spec based on OS reliability and reputation, as well as the write ups I have read say that it is insanely fast.

Hope this helps.

Ok, its going to take me a really long time to get a new engine/radio for this car, so im looking at RTR's now... Still in the $400-$450 price range.

I was looking at the Kyosho Mp7.5, Hyper 7(RTR), and Ofna 9.5 Pro buggies, not sure what of the 3 is the best basher.

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXEFJ3**&P=ML Kyosho Mp-7.5 RTR $399.99
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDUS8&P=7 Ofna 9.5 MBX RTR $439.99
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGPN8&P=7 Ofna Hyper 7 PCR RTR $499.99 (willing to go out of the price range for this if it is worth it)

Where can I get replacement parts for these cars? Do they break often?

What would be the best RTR you guys would reccomend? Any others you would reccomend would be nice too... thx

spend the exrtra couple of dollars and get a kanai series buggy. I would suggest a K2. I think you can get one for like 429 or so. Stay away from the 7.5 rtr

the 9.5 i think is kinda outdated although the mbx is a good choice. the 7.5 sport is nothing like its bigger brother. though an ok buggy, i wouldn't recomend it. the hyper 7 pcr is the best buggy out of your choices but also the most expensive. i would recomend the hyper 7 pbs rtr. its a lot like the pcr but doesn't have the lay-down style servo wich is hard to get to and doesn't make much of a difference. the pbs is available at www.nitromonkey.com for $440. its a great deal and a great buggy. in fact, its the buggy that i have wich is why i'm a little biased but i would definately say that the hyper 7 is superior to your other 2 buggy choices.

My friend just sent me a video of the PCR vs the PBS, I liked how the PCR handled, Im guessing from the lower CoG from the servos, not sure...

on www.nitromonkey.com, the PCR and PBS are the same price, $479.95

I think im going to go with the PCR if I get one of these things... I'll probably get it around november next year(my b-day), but I have to set a $$$ goal to work for because im not going to get this thing all for a b-day gift... nothing like buying half of your own gift, lol...

I want to hear about the comparison between the PCR and PBS from other people.

thx

www.nitromonkey.com has the pbs for $439.95.... anyway, maybe you should start a new thread on the differences between the pbs and pcr. from what i under stand, its just that the pcr has a laydown style servo and maybe a torsen center differential. not much difference besides the body and wheels. research it some and go to www.ofna.com

quote from nitromonkey.com "We currently have the Paul Coleman Hyper 7 PBS-PCR on sale for only $479.95" ..... that is the pcr version. it is sometimes refered to the pbs-pcr. if you look at the very right on the website, there is a column that says sale items, and directly under it, the pbs is listed as $439.95. it lists the violator, pcr, pcr pro, and pbs in that order. take a second look.

im leaning towards the PCR, there has to be a reason why it costs more, something has to be improved.... is the PCR a later version of the PBS?

Go with the PBS unless you wanna risk the chance of breaking servos and unneccasrily complicated throttle/steering linkages. It's the same exact car just comes with a laydown tray, different body.
