Mugen Prospec vs. XB8
#4
they are both very good cars!
the XB8 is basically a MBX5 with a C hub front end so take your pick, either car will serve you well
i'd say the XB8 has slightly more steering though but thats about it!

On the track the steering difference in the two isn't going to make a big deal, I race on a track with XB8'S and MBX5's and sometimes we swap cars to get a feel and there pretty much the same. I can tell you from experience though the MBX5 Prospec can take a beating and if you do happen to break something, you can get the parts. The guys with the XB8 at my track order a whole bunch of parts to have in hand so when they break they have one ready. HUDY hasn't really stocked the hobbies shops with all the parts they need yet.

prospec all the way i have aprospec and my friend has a xb8 now they are both cool but the prospec kicks its ass on the track {we both have the sam rb WS7 racing engines} and off the track the durability of the prospec is good massive tripples at my local MX track ive had it for 1 year and nothing has broken exepct 1 proline rim not the buggies fault but nearly every time my friend has a bash hes mostly repairing it first it was a C hub suspension that broke so on....... with the xb8 you are paying for craftmans ship like most things made in eurpoe {BMWs MERKs} when we put it together everything just fell into place and fine detail is put into it but its not in for the bash anyway pros race with mbx''s and 777's well hope that helps with your choice you can talk to mugen and xb8 owners at forums on there websites to get a finer description and stories by

You say your happy, but you would be happier if the coin-toss was reversed :P
Get the Xb8, then you get some hudy drivers, plenty of setup options, an easy to work-on buggy and a lighter car.
But seriously you will be happy with either, atleast your choices consist of the the two best buggies IMHO.

As mentioned both are great cars. The Jammin X1 CR is another good one. Feels as good as either to me and it's about $200-$300 cheaper. Just a thought.

I decided on the prospec after reading alot of the stuff on the xb8 website. There seems to be a few problems with the xb8 that need sorting out. The spur gear breaking and losing teeth is a big one that scared me off. but damn the next buggy they produce with the bugs all sorted out will be something. Don't get me wrong there are still things wrong with the mugen, eg. diff 'o' rings leak. and the joint pins in the cvd's come out. But there are easy and chead fixes for them and also so much part support its not funny.

If you look into the design, they are typical buggy design with the difference of typical steering mechanism.
If you look into the craftmanship, then X car is better.
If you look into the durability, then M car is better.
If you look into after market option availability, then M car is a bit more.
If you look into the price about whatever, then M car is in this advantage.
If you lokk into the performance, then see who and how the driver is

i see you mentioned after market option availability!
you don't really need any aftermarket options with the XRAY, not now they have released the front chassis brace, maybe the only thing you need to go with that is the King Headz top plate!
other than that the car is good
in fact both cars are good, i own both but at the moment its the XB8 that gets the track time but only because its newer & i'm still trying to get it to work 100% well for me

Right, no aftermarket option for X coz they work at their own, or share with those for K & M car
I got both as well but sold the X eventually. I'm not saying M is better but X costed me a lot to keep it running on my track[&o]

unless you are one of the top 10 drivers in the world they are both better than you so it comes down to which one is easier to get parts and set up advise from where you race.
xray just made an offer to anyone who wants to go race in europe of a good $1,000 dollars in FREE NEW hop up parts to go race. not just team drivers ANYONE with an xb8.
they have the most interest in US and really want to have the best buggy out there.
check out teh mugen forum and then the xb8 forumm and see what you think?

barnstormers is my second home.
no racing today track is closed for the day. guess I'm going to have to mow my lawn or something. Hummm, maybe if I mow the grass in a track shape......
fri night there was a puddle after the jump from a leaky water sprinkler. I tried to go around it but I went through it a few times and what a mess. still cleaning up the buggy and truck.
