Mayhem break in?

Im on tank 3,Its been ok,but it has the problem of staying running when I go to give it throttle at first.Only way I kept it running was to start it with throttle close to open and keep it there,then put it on ground and start driving.I set the throttle a lil higher it idles better,but still has that starting to throttle problem.What would I adjust Low end? Thats about the only thing I didnt adjust yet.
If so wich way would I turn it?
But over all it looks liek a nice buggy,Not sure how I feel about that Big crank start thing,,but it will work for awile I guess.I seen it hit pretty high speed briefly as the tank ran out, It gave me a big smile,So I cant wait to see it when its tuned nice

It's just rich on the bottom end (the low speed needle). One of those Sportwerks I had needed to be run 3/4 out on the low end.....another one I have is fine around 2 turns out. It should be about the same but for some reason engines can sometimes be a bit confusing. Start by turning the low speed needle in by 1/8 turn intervals and you will start to notice a difference. Be careful though....your engine is still new so you can't really give it enough throttle to allow it to "clear out" at first. Those adjustments you make will take a bit of running to set in. You'll see what I mean once you get it running and start fine tuning. Just put it up on a block/stand and let it idle at first to get your low speed needle adjusted to where you can sustain a decent idle. You can also up the idle screw a little.
You'll figure it out. Just keep making VERY small adjustments to the needles and you will start to understand how each adjust affects the engine. After a few weeks of running you'll have it down. Anyone with experience can tell you how an engine is tuned just by hearing it run for a second......you'll be the same.

I have found on mine Mayhem that it was way too rich when new---I ended up around 2 turns out on high speed and something like 3/4 to 1 turn on low speed ---temp is not weird---220 about and still smoky exhaust--hope this helps--

Same here. I had one person tell me that he was running his low needle at 1/2 out and it was perfect. I typically run about 2 1/2 on the high end and 1 out on the low.

Well I adjusted the high end just a tad leaner,,and adjusted the lowend 1/4 turn leaner,,still needs some I guess but i just ran the third tank so im not worried about.But it did run and stay runnign without glow igniter this time,So I guess im on the right track.
But my "internet buddy" told me low temps is bad for my engine..I was runnign rich liek it said just going up and down my driveway "Blipping it" till the tank ran out and temps didnt get over 120,Is this bad?

I think your Temp is fine Profit. I dont believe my Mayhem went over 160 f while I was breaking it in. I too had a wrong setting on the bottom end and had to adjust it. After break in my buggy run's strong!

Your "friend" is correct. One major part of breaking an engine in is making sure the piston and sleeve have been heat cycled multiple times. The goal is to get the piston and sleeve to 200F then allow them to completely cool with the piston at BDC. You might hear varying opinions but this is the most common approach to breaking an engine in. I always cycle my engines 4-6 times on a starter box, in 3minute intervals, then run 4-6 tanks gradually tuning for more power.
You'll be ok though. I always look back and really appreciate the knowledge I gained from my first engine. I blew three of them up though............but I learned a lot. Now, I am totally comfortable handling a $400 engine.

I know it's difficult to hold your self from leaning it and get that thing flying.BUT it will better in the long run.So take it slow,just like you started it!!

I have I ran 2 tanks really rich,im on tank 6 now,and I got temps up to 180.Im not doing long spped runs just going up and down my drive way still taking it easy,,I should be ok right?
