I wouldn't advice a beginner to buy used - very often you just buy other peoples problems and use more money, than it would have cost to buy a new one, to put it right. I know, I started that way[:@]
It is very difficult to judge the wear a buggy has taken if you don't have it in your hands.

You can get the LX Comp for 100$ more and that is with engine, radiosystem and servos. The mbx kit is rather old.

For the full package, think Hyper 7 PBS. An excellent buggy with everything you need in one box. After it's broken in though you will want to replace the steering servo, but baring fuel (20% is best for this engine), batteries/charger and glow ignitor (I suspect you have these already), it's all in one box, even the Starter box is in there to save you from blisters.

I pickud up an Ofna Ultra LX Comp from Ultimate Hobbies about a month and a half ago and am completely happy with it. All you need to get started are batteries, fuel, extra glowplugs and a glowplug wrench. Also, regardless of which car you choose a failsafe is a great addition to your car (think of it as insurance for a one tiem fee of about $20). They're reasonably fast. Definitly fast enough for a beginner and all the aluminum on them is 4mil. Most people will tell you to get a high torque servo for the steering, but I'm still running with my stock. It doesn't dry steer, but as soon as the vehicle is moving it turns the wheels just fine. My plan is to use it until the servo dies then replace it.

The MBX R2 has lowsy diffs. And the cassis is a flimsy 2.5mm. Most of the Ultra series cars have these same parts. The center drive shaft caps wear out easily too. They have too much angle for smooth power transition, or longevity.
