Why dont my stock sway bars on my mayhem work? is there something that i am missing? do i need to buy stiffer or looser bars or sumthin?

Disconnect the shocks from the lower arms and you'll see that they are working fine.

ok, well i thought that the whole point of having sway bars was so if you lifted one side of the car up (compressing the shock) the sway bar would then transfer some of that energy to the other side, lifting the opposite side for added stability.

Or would it be that the wheel on the ground would try to keep the other wheel down?

i dont run a front one on my X5. just try it w/ and w/ out them 1 at a time. it keeps the car stable. almost everyone runs the rear on their car. OK its like this - plant your car on the ground w/ all 4 tires down and compress the shocks to the left and to the right (kinda like its going into a corner) and see how it reacts then pull the end off the sway bar and do the same. you will see a huge diff. you can run them up from the end also to limit it more. it controls the car and keeps it tight. make certain the grub screws are not tight- they shold let the arms go up and down easily but not loose (just touching the bar)... yes you can buy stiffer bars but really to notice the diff you would have to be pretty good!

If the Mayhem's swaybars aren't very stiff you may not see the opposite side lift up. An easy way to feel the swaybar work, would be to grab your car's wing all with your fingers, and place your thumbs below the lower arms. When you squeeze with both hands you will notice that there is less resistance moving both sides at once than trying to move just one side.

with the car off the ground the shock on the other side is putting a lot of resistance back. When the car is on the ground and moving, its affecting it more than you think.

Basically, the bar is working as intended, you may want a thicker one (But I run the thinnest so it works with less effect), think it may just be your theory of how things work that needs to be ammended.

Indeed it is why we have forums and as this debate doesn't come around too often I have roled down the sarcasm dial.


Now a stiffer bar is a perfectly good idea if you run on flat level tracks, a good rule here is the smoother the track the thicker the bar. Some people on really rough tracks ditch the bars altogether.

Also the shocks come into play when choosing the bar thickness, it's all about tweaking that setup to suit the track, but do one thing at a time so you know what is causing it to do what.
