You may want to buy you some extra c-hubs. They break easily. My friend has an Ultra LX comp.

I assume you're buying it used if it has the HPI engine in it? New they come with the Force .26. If it's used you'll want to give it a good inspection to check for worn or cracked parts. I've had mine for abuot three months now and have had next to no problems with it. The only part I've had to replace so far is the button on the engine ehad due to my own negligence resulting in a stripped glow plug hole. I have also gone through my first pull starter, but that may very well be due to my own inexperience. Most people will tell you to replace the steering servo with a high torque metal geared servo right away. I've found that while the servo won't dry steer the wheels (when the car isn't moving) once the car is moving at even a slow speed it turns just fine and all the way up to WOT. Invest in some lycra shock sleeves. They'll really reduce the amount of dirt and grit that gets into the shocks. The little rubber booties that cover the shafts just didin't last as well as I'd hoped.
Things I've bought to make my life easier...
Rechargeable glow plug heater
Rechargeable batteries for the radio unit
extra glow plugs (burned through alot until breakin was finished and I learned how to tune the engine)
Shock sleeves
I've also used duct tape to seal the bottom of the gear boxes when I rebuilt it. They just don't seal well enough against the chassis to keep dirt and sand out. Putting a layer of tape acros teh bottom before installing them has really cut down on my maintenance.
I'm currently overdue for a new bumber since it took me a few spills to learn how to take jumps and land properly.
The suspension is pretty sturdy so unless you really bash it hard you should be fine for some time. If you prefer the pivot ball suspension on the MBX then keep in mind that the MBX suspension will fit the LX when the time for a replacement comes.
That's pretty much it. It should hold up pretty well depending on how you treat it.
