It should not short out. The red wire which is hot is always in the middle. Even if you have only a two plug connector (the bleck part has been trimmed) it is unlikly it shorted...did it smoke?

If you've got throttle but no steering, I'd hesitate to say that it still works!! But you say it's like that with two different receivers?? If it's not the steering servo that's faulty, then it must be the transmitter...

I am a computer engineer by trade, and I can tell you that if you saw smoke, then whether it works or not, something is seriously wrong with it. Don't use it! You might end up with a WOT runaway. Contact the place where you bought it, say you don't know what happened, see what they say...

By the way...receiver (i before e, except after c, except for the exceptions).

Correcting spelling huh
Those who live in glass houses etc. etc.
Ok Mr. perfect

plug the servo you know works into the steering spot on the rx
it could be you fried the servo when all that reverse polarity happened

nope the steering servo is good. im getting a replacement reciever forr free
i think its the wires on the steering servo that are busted cuz wen i move them to a specific spot it moves

and wats a switch that works?
well,
If I were you I'd get all z style connectors, or futaba/hitec ,,then you won't have to stress of which way things plug in. Besides having a beter switch wih a charge jack makes life so much easier

Names start with capitals, e.g. Mr Perfect.
