bolt the engine to the mounts. then put 2 of the screws in the bottom of the chassis run them in almost flush. then stick a piece of paper between the clutch bell and spur gear. this will ensure proper gear mesh. then making sure the engine is straight snug up those 2 srews. pull out the piece of paper it shouldn't tear pulling it out if it does it is too tight. then if everything looks good( a little tick when you turn the clutch bell. if no play it is too tight.)put some threadlock on the other 2 bolts and install them and tighten them up. then remove the first 2 and threadlock those and reinstall them. And that's it. i do this every time i run my buggy for cleaning purposes. after a while you will be able to do it pretty simple, and won't need the paper to get proper gear mesh. hope this helps sorry it's a little long.

All,

Sorry to intrude but, I have a question. when you want to remove the engine ...how do you uninstall the Throttle linkage ?

Thanks for allowing me to intrude.

SManMTB,

I unscrewed the arm that leads to the servo...is this fine..or should I have done as you stated ??? Also will I need to retune the engine ??? I am removing the engine because of the noise I was hearing coming from the clutch. Sounds like somethings slipping.

Just pop out the ball link.
Retune engine? - No but maybe you need to realign the linkage since you took it all apart.

If you like to keep your motor running good, you tune it a little bit at least every day anyway. Easiest way I have found is to put all of the screws in loosely at once (the four into the top of the mounts, and the four through the bottom of the chassis).

To get the motor aligned, first, slide the motor such that when looking at it above it points directly forward, and not on an angle to one side. To make sure of this, check how the clutch bell and spur gear line up, they should not be on an angle to each other. Also, the upper four screws adjust the front/back movement of the engine, so line the clutch bell/spur gear up so that they are even front to back. Then tighten down all four top screws.

The lower four screws adjust the side to side movement. For this, rather than use a piece of paper, just snug them up such that the motor can't easily be moved by hand. Then roll your car. Play with moving the engine side to side, until you hear the least amount of noise possible from your gear mesh, and the car rolls the furthest when you push it. Then hold the engine still, and tighten them down as tight as you can make them. Re-check to make sure the mesh hasn't changed while tightening the screws by rolling the car again.
