My mayhem roto start lasted two runs, now the gear is stripped out. I am looking in to getting a starter box, yet there are so many to choose from and they all seem to do the same. Could someone give me a link or some insight as to what starter box to go with.
The other option is a starter wheel like a hand held bump starter, that way I can use it on my Revo as well. If anyone knows what will work with both a mayhem and a revo that would be a good help. I just need reliability.
thanks

I run the 12 Volt Ofna dark gray chrome top starter box, with power panel. comes with 2 550 motors installed and a battery. I would guess the biggest difference you are seeing in boxes is because some of them come with batteries and some of them dont. I paid $90 at my LHS for mine you can get them for as little as $70 on the internet, but you might pay $15-20 shipping, they are extremely heavy with the 12volt battery installed, I think they ship at 15 pounds.
this is the box that I have but with the power panel and a battery..

The rotostart should have a metal gear. The older ones were plastic and replaced for obvious reasons - check to see what you have... if it is plastic, they'll likely send you a replacement. You'll need the pro motor mounts for it to work with a box.

I should have known, sorry, I generally don't asked such stupid questions, yet I am getting tired of research and you guys on the board seem to know much more.

OFNA part number 10250, or 10253 are the ones recommended for 1/8th scale. They both have heavy duty 12 volt (size of your fist in diameter) motors, and can fit 12 volt gell cell batteries inside. 10250 is the basic model, 10253 comes with the power panel, so that you can attach a glow starter directly to the starter box (instead of fumbling around with AA or C batteries). Expect to spend around 70 for the box, another 10-20 for the power panel option and glow ignitor (if you want it), and 20 more for the gell cell battery. That doesn't include shipping.
It doesn't matter though. Once you can start your car without breaking a sweat (or a pullstart cable, or rotostart gear) you will see that it is well worth it. Even if it was $200.00. Some will whine that it is heavy to carry around, but at least it doesn't break often, and leave you not able to play with your $300-2000 dollar toy.

I too would like to know if there is a starter box that will work with a revo and a mayhem buggy. Any help on this would be great!

I did get horizon hobby to warranty the starter gear on my mayhem. I will be ordering a starter box like kx250ryder suggested, powerpanel, glow starter, and battery. Its a shame I have to order new engine mounts for this to work on my buggy. Thanks for the help on this subject.
