-Make sure that you have the buggy perfectly lined up, sometimes it will catch the the sides of the hole through the chassis.
-And for starting a new motor make sure the piston isn't stuck at the top of its stroke that can make it impossible to start.
-Try to push down on the center of the buggy(cylinder head) for best contact with the starter

Try loosening the glow plug half a turn. I run a 12 volt lead acid battery in my starter box and it won't turn over my Hyper 8 port unless I loosen up the plug. Does anyone out there have a starter box that can turn a .21 over without loosening the plug?

I have to make sure my batteries are fully charged and then bump the car on the starter until it starts to turn the motor, then I can hold it down and start it. I have 2 starters (both OFNA) one for 1/8th scale and one for 1/10th scale. The 1/10th scale starter is the only one that will turn my V-Spec. I guess because of the smaller starter wheel.

Another thing is new motors will stick at TDC. The last one (.21) I broke in I had to pry the motor lose twice with a screwdriver before I could ever start it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the starter box, its because the new engine's piston and sleeve is very tight at its highest point. Alll new engines do this, but the Hyper .21 8-port is especially bad. I had the same rpoblem with mine and someone told me to put some after run oil into the engine head, and that helped it and Heating the engine made a big difference and that was the only way i could that thing to start until i broke the engine in.

While it is true that there is nothing wrong with your box, there are boxes that will turn over engines without loosening plugs, or adding oil, or any other tricks for that matter. Just look for any box (OFNA #10250 or 10253 for example) that have heavy duty 12 volt motors. Most boxes come with either 1 or 2 550 series or 750 series motors. While these two types of motors are ok for small block engines, they will struggle with big block engines (like what your buggy has) when it is brand new. Boxes with the heavy duty 12 volt motors will not struggle like the ones with the smaller series engines.
Here is a 550 motor (3.07 inches X 1.46 inches)

Here is a 750 motor (3.66 inches X 1.66 inches)

Here is a 12 volt motor (6.75 inches X 2.75 inches)

Did you Bevel out around the Fly Wheel Hole in the Chassis? It is recomened to do this as it gives you a little bit more play for the Wheel on the starter to hit the fly Wheel. You have to have the wheel aligned JUST right. I Just put an OS RG In my Mayhem RTR and wow that was a Tight motor Break in was real hard on my starter wheel. I had a couple of times I had to use a screw driver and get it past TDC so that the Stater box could get a good fast snap on it to get the motor running.
Here is the HOW To TIP I got off of Horizon for the flywheel hole.
