MBX5 vs Prospec

Hey all,
Well, I was all up and ready to get the Hyper 8 until I started reading more about OFNA's quality problems. I have been racing an H7 for about 1 year now but wasn't completely satisfied the the build quality of the RTR, as well as snapping shock rods. I was hopng the the H8 would be better, but it seems like its up in the air.
Anyways, I really don't want to fork out +$700 for a kit, so i was wondering if you all had opinions about the MBX5 vs the Prospec. I am not familiar with the Mugen line of cars, so any info helps.
If all esle fails, the X-Ray Xb8r seems reasonable, but I am concerned about parts availablility. I don't mind buying tires as I am going to race this kit so i will probably ed up buying new rubber anyways.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "MBX-5 VSThe prospec"??.......there is a standard MBX-5 version that mugen produces and then there is the MBX-5 PROSPEC version they make. The Prospec is the buggy with all the high end shizzle hop up parts , such as upgraded shock towers and so forth....VERY AWESOME BUGGY!! i myself race a kyosho brand buggy (still with the ol' trust worthy Kanai 3) , but kyosho's newer buggies are the 777 series.........which are supposed to be a little better than the older "kanai" versions. As far as the MBX-5 buggies go...........you can't go wrong with either the standard or the Prospec version...very solid buggy , and i would take either a kyosho or a Mugen before i would take any ofna buggy. Ofna's aren't bad , but i'm just not a fan of the quality of parts they make. my $.02

The ProSpec pretty much just has stronger parts on it. I don't think there is really anything that will make it handle better right off the bat.. down the road a bit yes because some parts will wear out. The biggest thing it the flex in the chassis... just get a set of ProSpec chassis braces and your MBX5 will be as stiff as the ProSpec.
I've got a buggy that is right in between the 2 right now. All I need are the titanium upper rear arms, captured hinge pins (when I bend a stock one I'll change them) and the aluminum rear hubs which I understand most people switch to the plastic ones anyhow??
Personally I LOVE my mugen. I was going to switch to a Kyosho SP2 but since I just dropped $60 to replace all the arms/bushings I think I'll stick with mine for a little while longer

I was asking what's the differences between the MBX5 and the MBX5 Prospec. I am going to seriously look into the Mugen, but I just found a local shop that still has the Kyosho MP-777SP1 for a really good price.

if you can afford the porspec over the stock MBX5, get it, it has heaps of upgrades that you will most likely get if racing, and it's cheaper to buy them as the prospec than try to buy them separately later. ask motopro what he likes driving better, his 777 or his mugen, he runs both. i personally love my prospec, i have driven a few other buggies & nothing handles my driving style better than the mugen. you will definitely appreciate the difference coming from the hyper 7, to me it was like chalk & cheese when driving the 2. do you have a local track with people who would let you drive their buggy? if so it's a good idea to try before you buy. a lot of people (most) wouldn't like other people driving their buggy, but if you take yours down & show you're competent & are prepared to pay for damages you do you might be lucky, & it would give you an idea of what you like & don't like.

I currently have one of each, a regular MBX5 and a Prospec. While there are some differences, nothing really huge. A few more aluminum parts, a few more beefed up parts.
As far as performance, I really haven't noticed any differences. I have them set-up the same so they handle about the same. One is not better than the other. The std is just as durable as my Prospec...

I think you would be very happy with either car. I have the standard MBX with loads of upgrades. Past the level of the Prospec. Racers edge shock towers, Kfactory everything...their carbon and aluminum chassis like Motopros.. Tons of stuff. Loads of dough too. My car is not going to be much if any faster than a stock MBX. It will stay "tight" longer, and should handle slightly better. But I would bet a non pro driver would not notice it. In other words...if you want a great buggy buy the standard MBX5. You can always upgrade to the cool stuff later like I did. Like the other guys said you will love this car.

Sorry, I may be wrong on that point, as when i was last looking, those parts weren't listed as extras but were definatley different on the kits i was looking at. That was probably due to how long the mbx 5 had been sitting on the shelf and how short the prospec had been there.
They are cheap to buy if you don't have them any way.
