Hey guys. Will [link=http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/2414]THIS[/link] starter box work ok with a hyper 8 with a novarossi RX21P5X engine? I wont be using a gell cell, just 2 stick packs, (3300mAh).

I have that exact starter box with 2 3800 mah batts and it doesn`t last long . If you plan on using it when racing , don`t . At most tracks in my area we have race practice for an hour or two [depending whick track] and then usually at least 2-4 heats and then the mains . Unless your track gives you some time between heats so you can charge the batts , you will not make the whole day . It`s a good box but not with the setup for 2 batteries . I`d get something different and just get a gell cell . I can go two full race days and then some with a gell cell .

This is it. OFNA 10250. Designed for 1/8th off road buggies. It uses a 12 volt heavy duty motor (put your hands together like you are holding a bat, that is how big the motor is), like the one you see airplane guys start their giant size engines with. It has room for a 12 volt gell cell as well. OFNA #10253 is the same box, but it also has the power panel, which allows you to run your glow starter off the 12 volt battery instead of a little AA, C, or D battery.

I have a similar starter box than the one you want to buy. It's a universal starter box from ofna.Mine has plenty of room for gel cell or two stick batteries.BUT the two motor system doesn't have much power. On a new engine don't expect it to pull you through without[:@]!!!

This is the way to go and for only about 3 bucks more than you are going to spen on that. Plus the 12V Gel are not that bad in price. This is a very good powerful Starter box and with a full charge on the Gel will last you all day.

I must echo the thoughts of the others
the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCUC2&P=0]Chrome top box with the Single motor 12volt motor [/link] will be much more reliable
the battery is only $20 at most hobby shops, [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXL370&P=M]tower has them for $18[/link]
A nice bonus to having the 12 volt battery in your box is you always have a 12 volt power supply to charge your Rx/Tx with at the track. When I go to the track I take a fully charged Starter box, and my [link=http://www.hitecrcd.com/Chargers/Discontinued/CG-335pro.htm]Hitec 12volt feild charger[/link], that's all I need. I really don't need any AC power at all to run a full race day

i just bought an ofna box that looks similar to that one. it comes with the wiring for stick packs
and for the 12 volt batt. i have boxes that use 12 volt and stick packs and never had a problem
with either not lasting all day.

unless you have a line on 7000mah packs, the sticks won't last as long
another point, stick packs work well when new, but over time and many cycles loose their ability to hold a charge, and will need to be replaced more often
My last 12 volt battery lasted me 6 years.
Advantage to stick packs??
they can be quick charged very easily, and are a lot lighter
Everything has pros and cons

You can use an automotive charger to charge the gell cell batteries mentioned above. The downside is that they are timed chargers typically, and don't necessarily charge it to its fullest. I would say pick up an MRC Super Brain 977 (or two) and you can PEAK charge starter box 12 volt batteries. It also charges two different batteries at once, so you can spend more time driving and less time charging batteries.
I use a power panel on my starter box, so that way that giant 12 volt gell cell battery can power my glow ignitor too. That way I can go days at a time without worrying about charging stupid glow ignitor batteries.
Between my Super Brain charging my radio batteries and my starter box (simultaneously), and my Duratrax Pirhana Digital charging my car battery pack, I can charge them all at once. The car and radio typically take about 30 minutes to charge, the starter box (depending on how dead it is) is between 1-5 hours. So I either set them up to charge the night before, or the morning of.
