If its dying when you open the throttle its probably the low speed needle. Set it to what they recommend then turn it 1/12 clockwise and try again. If it still doesn't work do the same. After a while it should get better but be sure you don't lean it too far because its a new engine. Just get it so it doesn't die untill its ran in, then tune it more. Also try keeping the glow starter on the plug. Engines at break in aren't the easiest things to get along with but it does get better after this.

Depending on whether you like reading paragraphs, or numbers, these links should help.

Here is some advice getting started with 1/8th buggies:

Literally step-by-step engine tuning instructions:

EDIT: From your original post, idle settings should be set by the measurement of the size of the gap between the carburetor slide, and the side of the carburetor, when looking down the carburetor (with air filter removed).

Typical break in settings for most motors are something like:
High speed needle: 3.5-4 turns out
Middle speed needle (if so equipped): flush with carburetor housing
Low speed needle: 3-4 turns out
Idle stop adjustment: 1mm gap between end of carb slide and side of carburetor
