Default how adjust engine?

Hello,

I bought a RC car 7 years ago, but haven't driven for 5 years. It's a buggy 4WD with an 3.5cc, I guess. I'm a totally beginner. Can anyone tell me what kind of engine this is and how can I easily adjust it? I saw some screws to adjust at the other side of the engine. I started it yesterday without any problem, but when I accelerate it goes down in rpm and stops running. Sometimes when full gaz and I do back to neutral, he stays full gaz for 5 seconds.
Anyone some help?

Tnx,
Jan (Belgium)

how much are you willing to spend but a lot of engine will work with your buggy do you want to race if so get a .21 engine i heard lots of good things about the sportwerks .21 engine. but if not im getting the sportwerks .26 engine get that one same thing i have heard lots of good things about both of those engines. the .26 engine im getting is off of amianhobbies.com under $130 and the .21 youll have to look for some.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but i'd leave that engine in.
from the looks of that buggy, i'm not sure it would stand up to the power of a SW.21 (or any othe modern engine). The spur gear is plastic for a start and we have no idea whats in the diffs or what clutch it uses. The fact its 7 years old worries me a little too.
The carb may be a little gummed up from sitting for 5 years, check it moves freely and if not free it up and lubricate it.
Secondly check the tuning. Hopefully you will still have the manual that came with it. Set it back to factory settings then lean it from there. Start the High speed needle clockwise 1/8th turns until the it is running well at high speed. Then lean the Low speed needle so it pulls away cleanly. If you cant get it to pull cleanly enough to tune the HSN (ie. it dies) then you'll need to do the LSN a little first, just so it doesn't die when pulling off.
It sounds like your problem is either the carb or it being too rich.
Either way I wouldn't expect the engine to run exactly the way it was 5 years ago without a little tweaking. Especially if you ran it last in July and now your trying in November. The atmospheric differences would mess with the tune.
Anyway find manual, Work through it methodically and ensure nothing is sticking and all works as it should. Re-tune and go.
You should be looking perhaps to get a better quality buggy in the near future if your serious about getting back into the hobby.

lots of thanks for your explanation, but can I find a user manual on the net for this kind of engine so I can set it back to factory settings and what kind of carb should I use (buy) because he's indeed gummed up?

thanks

If the Carb is gummed up just wash it out in fuel (better still methanol if you have it). This will dissolve the gunk in the carb and it should soon be moving smoothly. Don't bother buying a carb as it will cost too much. just start saving you money towards the new buggy. As for the manual I'm afraid I can't help you there. Just start searching the net. As a general rule try bottom needle flush with the casing and the high speed needle all the way in then out 3 1/2 turns.
I cant promise that'll work on that old engine though
