Default What Fuel ????

I'm a newby to this site so bear with me

I just got a sportwerks turmoil with a .26 she has been broken in with Odonells 20% but I switched to Trinity Monster 20% she now acts kinda sluggish I run her pretty fat right now since she just went threw break in and I'm not really planning to race her so I don't need a rocket motor right now I might put my 8 port TOPS motor in her later if I do the race thing. I have been in and out the nitro 1/8 scale buggy thing for a few years but never really got to really learn enough about fuels and how they affect performance. I want to keep my Turmoil as a back up buggy so I will be keeping her on the rich side to save the motor. My question is there a differant fuel i could use to get more performance but not sacrifice burning my motor out too quik?

Oh and what are your oppinions on the turmoil I have allways had Ofna and Hot bodies 1/8 scale buggys the turmoils seems ok but I really have not put her in real race conditions

I also have a Savage X 4.6 a 3.3 Jato and a 2.5 Rustler will the fuels that I use in these work good for all these (I have been using the Trinity Monster 20%) or should I run differant fuels in each.

Any help would be great

I'd say you probably just need to re-tune the engine to accomodate the new fuel. Otherwise it could be that the new fuel you are running has a higher oil content which will bog down the engine more.
It does sound like its still a bit rich. Rich is good but don;t run it too rich as this is just as bad as too lean.

You could go up to 25 or 30% which you will see a slight increase in power but at the expense of the engine's life in most cases. Its a personal choice really. I personnally like running 25% and thats it. Also you should be able to use the one fuel for all your vehicles of course thats if they are all running the same % nitro that is.

thanks I will do some adjustments I think I should run 20% Odonnels then get all my cars and trucks dialed in for that fuel.

yeah if you have a few its handy having them run on the same fuel. Otherwise you end up with all sorts of fuels and when that happens you're fuel can go stale if you don;t use it up in time before its starts going off.

Keep in mind it is not only brand but blend as most manufactures of fuel have more then one blend. The biggest thing about the difference with most blends is oil content. I do not get near as good of performance out of high oil content fuels. I will not run fuel with over 12% oil content.

Using high oil content fuels in nitro car engines won't provide improved engine life, as some would expect. Through extensive testing we've discovered the point of diminishing return as far as oil content to engine life is actually around 8% for most car engines. In other words any more oil than 8% in the fuel does noting to improve the life of a car engine. In fact the secondary effects of high oil content fuels can actually cause engine damage by encouraging over lean runs. Here's how.

Using high oil content fuel causes a car engine to be unresponsive during acceleration acting as if the engine were running rich. Typically when using high oil content fuel, in order to get crisp acceleration and response, an engine will need to be adjusted overly lean. In addition the high oil content prevents lean bog when an engine is over-leaned thus allowing the engine to run at this lean setting without the customary telltale lean bog warning letting you know the engine is overheating.

In summary, high oil content fuels don't give added protection. The point of diminishing return from a protection standpoint in a gas car application is about 8% oil depending on the oil type and engine. Anymore oil than this doesn't offer added protection and has potential secondary effects that reduce performance and can actually cause you to over lean your engine in an attempt to get crisp throttle response and acceleration.
