Hey guys i was looking to buy a 1/8th scale buggy i am looking at the OFNA Hyper 8 or the 9.5 RTR. I am probably just going to mess around my house with for now like in the street on the grass and such. I will probably run it a bit down at the dirt track at our hobby shop too. I want something that handles well but is fast at the same time. I was looking to keep it at the $500 point which puts the Hyper 8 just below my price which i really like that buggy alot but have heard alot of good things about the 9.5 too. So which do you guys think is the better buggy? Thanks
Also do either of these buggies have reverse?
I was also looking at the Team Losi 8ight but that is a bit high in price but not too bad considering it comes with the spektrum radio.

I would like to know the answer to this too. I have been looking at RTRs from Ofna, and have my eye on a Jammin X1 RTR ($475, with starter, humpack, and failsafe). BTW, I plan on using it the same way as you, no real racing. If I could go with a cheaper model that is still easy to get parts for and work on, I will.

It's a great forum, full of information that you have to read in order to get. Look before you leap, this question has been asked more than a few times. Like I said, you didn't get any constructive responses, because everybody who knows what's best is tired of repeating themsleves. SEARCH FUNCTION! Pick a brand or buggy you like, then read about it...

Dude welcome to the forum. We have over 300,000 members. It is true that doing a search will get you the answer you want. But sometimes the answers change, as new reports come in from guys who own one get a chance to test it. with 300K members you get lots new ideas depening on who's looking on any given day. I have an out dated ofna LX GT. It has upgraded parts like a motor and pipe. I love and all i do is bash. I broke it the other day and the best hobbie shop in the area did not have the part i needed in stock. this is a downer. But i found the parts i need used on ebay. I will be buying an incomplete "roller" of about 40 bucks and now i will have a bunch of spare parts plus the ones i need. So if your the type who whould do something like that get the cheap one and be perpared to wait or buy spares in bulk. as for the high end part, my LHS keeps those parts in stock alway because that's what all the guys who race use, and they are the "bread winner" customers of the LHS.

I have searched the forums and i have read a bit on the buggies i was just trying to get more feedback from some people who may have both of the buggies and have compared them. Or maybe they have used both of them and can compare them. I have read they Hyper 8 forum and the Losi 8ight forum and alot of it is ranting and raving about the car but i haven't really found a bunch of constructive criticism on them. Believe me i know how forums are run i am Mod on an audio forum and i know it is annoying to ask the same question over and over but the only reason i did is because after searching i still didn't find much especially on the 9.5 since it is a newer buggy. But if no one wants to answer the question then i will continue searching and hope i find what i am looking for.

if your a begginer then i would buy somthing like a ofna for around $350 and then use the rest of the money for glow plugs fuel things of that nature if not. RTR i would suggest hyper 7 or 8. and if you want a kit the Xray XB8R is a good one.

Ok The 9.5 is not a newer buggy, its actually a quite old design. The hyper 8 is much better. The jammin as someone mentioned is also good. Which of these 2 is best is a matter of debate (though I would go the hyper 8 route) but both are better than the 9.5 and you will be pleased with either.
Hope this helps you out a little

Go Hyper 8, newer design better built and you don't have to expend more extra money to upgrade. Usually the cheapest buggy you buy will be good to run alone or in the open terrain, if you are planning to race eventually you will end up throwing that car into a corner or expending so much money to upgrade it that you would thought it was better to buy a good one to start with.
The Hyper 8 is doing very good at racing right now and it still is a good value.

Well i did some looking down at our hobby shop today. I was also looking through the february edition of RC Car Action and i really like the Losi 8ight it got a really good review in the magazine and our hobby shop had nothing but good things to say about it as well. It seems like it is a nicer buggy than the Hyper 8 the Jammin seems nice i haven't looked at it too much yet. I am probably not going to be purchasing anything for a month or two i am just doing some research right now. But to everyone that helped with some answers thank you and if anyone else has any suggestions that would be great.
Thanks

if you want something fast yet dependable....then you need a jammin
if you get a losi rtr ....buy 2 extra clutch shoes and springs ...the carbon ones.....and add it to your clutch...then you will have a 4 shoe clutch just like the pro kit

I had the 9.5, and I really liked it! Whenever you ask, "what's a good buggy" on a forum, you're going to hear "get the Jammin, 8ight, hyper 8....Blah blah blah.
I paid 240.00 for a new Ofna 9.5 RTR on ebay, and I didn't break one single part i 2 months of bashing and practicing at the track. I passed plenty of 8ights and whatever else was on the track, and they often passed me too. It's all about how you drive it, and whether can take the abuse you give it. The clutch shoes don't last long, so invest in some aluminum shoes. The motor ran a little warm, but it was very fast on the track.
If you want to get the "best" or what other people claim is the best, be prepared to spend a grand on a chassis, engine and servos. I'm definately not a buggy expert, but I really enjoyed my 9.5! Let's face, r/c cars are big-boy toys, so why spend more than you have to on something you don't really need. Right?
Another buggy you might consider is the CEN matrix. I just got mine and it comes with....well take a look here http://www.cenracing.com/cars/matrix/matrix.html
It was assembled from the factory with loktite, and Diff lube in the diffs (most companies use that cheap grease).

Well i was looking around at the Jammin and it seems very nice too. I think i have narrowed it down to the Jammin or the 8ight. If you had to chose between these two which would you buy. I plan on using it for just racing around my house in the street and the grass and stuff. I will take it down the the dirt track at our hobby shop sometimes. I would like to get into racing it for fun atleast. But for now i just have to get used to the car a bit. So any suggestions on which car is the most reliable and best bang for the buck. I know the radar test on the 8ight in the february issue of RC Car Action said it did 47.3 MPH not sure how the Jammin X1 RTR matches up to that. Also i was looking at the Sportwerks Turmoil RTR it is very nice too and it comes with the Spektrum like the 8ight which i really like. I really like the 8ight the best so far but i am willing to look at other options i just don't know what to look at.

Although I'm an AVID jammin' fan and own a factory team edition, I would get the losi eight rtr if I were you. I saw two of them at a race I attended this weekend and one was in the A main. They performed just as well as there kit brothers. Now, if you had the money and were looking for a kit. I'd be telling you to get a jammin' factory team edition, but this is not the case. Anyway, get the eight rtr, you'll be happy with it.

Hyper 8....tough buggy , almost rtr (80%) built. The losi is having issues for now. Servos, clutch bells, leakng shocks, chassis flex.
I have seen people making heat shields, there own radio trays. on and on to gt htis car running. Hyper 8 is a tank, light, and great support.

I was at the hobby shop today and someone had a used Jammin Pro kit they had for sale it was just the kit and extra bodies and parts (not sure what parts) but they wanted $350 for it no radio or engine. Is that a good deal? I may be able to go buy it in a few weeks or so if they still have it and then buy a motor and then a radio as i get money. If that is much nicer than the Jammin RTR and the Losi 8ight RTR. Then i may jump on that if i can afford to get it before it is sold. Thanks.

Ok maybe i should re explain what i am looking for a bit. I am going to be using this thing around the yard and in the street to begin with. But i do plan on getting into racing it after getting used to it. So i want something that is going to hold up on the track as well. So what would be the BEST bang for the buck. Like i said in a previous post there is a Jammin X1CR Pro at our hobby shop used for $350 i would have to put a motor and radio in it. But i also read a nice review on the 8ight RTR in RC Car Action saying he qualified 2nd behind Pro racer Jeremy Kortz only 12 tanks of fuel through the car. This was right after break in and all he did differently was change the grease in the diffs. to oil and put different tires on it. So it seems like 8ight RTR is a pretty race worthy buggy. Would i be better off buying that used Jammin X1CR Pro and putting a motor and radio in it? Or should i just get a really nice RTR?
