I used pull starters for years before I got my buggy. If you have a well-tuned engine and use them properly they are not that bad. I have fixed a few but for the most part have not had a lot of problems with them. But yes a starter box is the way to go.

I've got to admit I quite like pull starts. I wouldn't use them on serious racing engines but when you want to pick up your buggy and bash to kill some time they are great. No lugging starter boxes and batteries around. The only time I've had a problem is when the knot has come undone and the string needs fishing out of the housing.

I know everyone hate`s pullstarter`s...but I agree when it come`s to just running around a parking lot there`s alot less to carry...I`ve had some good luck with some old RC`s and I agree with 46u... As for my broke starter I fixed it and It work`s great and if your mill is tuned right it`s a great thing...what a PAIN...To re-coil the spring in the housing you need three hand`s with small finger`s and don`t forget to wear safety glasses...! GEEEEEEEEEEZ
