why would you want to? roto is so much easier to start and you have only a million less points of failure. if you have to, just purchase a pull-start thats compatible with your engine, usually sold where your engine parts are. Take off the back plate and smack a pullstart on. then you are done.

is it the engine mounts causing the pullstart not to fit if so just use a hack saw, drmel or drill to grind them away thats what i did works fine.

seriously dude, if anything go for a rotostart hey. If you do persist with a p/s you will have to raise your engine up on the mounts to accomodate the p/s housing. What enegine are you running?

I haven't bought any engine yet. Just trying to keep the cost down and go with either pull start or Roto. This is my first nitro car.

save up the extra money and just buy a bump box..thunder tigre makes a good engine that isn't pull start for like $120. and a bumpbox is like $80..

You have two options to install a p/s engine into an MBX5R. 1) Cut out a slot in the chassis to allow for the pull starter to fit through. 2) Make a engine mount spacer to raise the engine higher off the chassis allowing for the pull starter to fit. I have installed a roto start STS 21 in a Hyper 8 and I made custom 1/16" alloy spacers that went in between the chassis and the engine mounts. I recommend making spacers instead of cutting up your chassis. It mostly depends on the engine that will give you the option of making spacers instead of cutting a slot in your chassis (some engines have huge pull starts). Making the engine mount spacers was a simple job and you dont need an entire shop to make them. I just didnt want to mess with my chassis cause in the future I plan to get a b/s engine which wont need any custom spacers.

or you could just do what i said and cut a we bit of the engine mount at the back. heres some pics of my hyper 21 8 port pullstart in my mugen mbx5 i have no problems after i cut part of engine mount.
