I have an older, but great charger (Novak Rhino), which was designed for NiCd batteries. I have not found any documentation indicating that I could use this charger to charge NiMh batteries. I recently purchased a new Rx battery pack for my buggy and after I received it I found out that it was a NiMh pack, which makes sense. My question is: Can I use my charger to charge this new pack if I would time the charging? For example, the pack is 1600 mAh and if I would charge it at 500 mA for 3 hours, that would (almost) fill it up, right? Any suggestions other than buying a new charger?
Thanks.
Edwin

Yeah, it should work, but it really isnt worth it. Your never gona nget a full charge, and im sure once its done charging it goes into trickle charge mode, which is bad for Nimhs. but it will work in a pinch. i reccoemnd you get a better charger, one that can charger everything youll need. the Super brain 977 charger is a great charger that can charge just about anything. If your looking for a bnit higher charge rate, and a better Li-po charger, and youve got a bit more money then the super brain 989 is your best bet.

I hear you on the new charger, but my wife would kill if I tell her that I want to spend another $100 after spending a bunch of money on spare parts and a new Spektrum radio and then locking up my engine last night.... If you guys indicate that the Novak should work for now (understanding that it will never be completely full), I will probably stick to that for the time being.... Thanks for the quick response!

and using a NiCd charger on a NiMh pack is not a good idea.

Here is probably the best reference on RC batteries and chargers. I don't think you should use a charger made ONLY for NiCd cells on a pack made with NiMH cells.
