hey guys, im lookin to build a onroad car for brushless and wanted to get some input onto chassis models I should look at.
now since im living in Japan, im pretty limited to Kyosho/Tamiya/Mugen/Yokomo
other stuff can be had, but its a pain in the ass to track down
basicly I want a car I can tool around with, its not for racing so I dont need to fit within any set guidelines.
also are there any hardware recommendations? I have 0 experience with brushless / lipo systems but I expect the hardware to happily cost me upwards of $600
cheers

I suggest you go to the electric thread, as you would get more help! 99% of everything here is nitro. Do you want to build a on road buggy or an on road car?
Good Luck and have fun.

I have done Kyosho and Serpent cars. Both were great cars. The real trick in BL conversions matching the car with the right system. I would suggest that you map out what you want the car to do. Do you want reverse? If so this is going to add a lot to the cost of the system. Because adding reverse means that you are going to use the motor for brakes and for on road you are going to have to get a either a BK 36150or a MGM 16020 esc and they cost about $325 plus each. On the motor you will want a Neu 1512 or Lehiner series 19 motor at around $250. Now the batteries. How long do you wan tot run for? For 45 minutes plus you will need at least 8000 mAh. MaxAmps have the best deals on those. They have both 8000 and 10000 mah packs. You need to decide weather you want 4 or 5 cell lipo. The higher voltage creates lower temperatures on the motor and esc but weighs more where the converse is true for the lower voltage, Higher temps and less weight. Either voltage can be made to reach similar speeds. THe Mamba Max will do the job as esc but I would not recommend it if you are using it in a 1/8 scale on road car that is using the motor for brakes. The Mamba cannot handle the current draws that come under braking. Braking draws the most current by many times over acceleration or running. You will see 250 plus amps on your on road car under braking where you will not see those numbers onan 1/8 scale off road buggy because the tire slide is much easier.
My personal choice would be the BK 35150 controller on a car with reverse or the Mamba Max for a car with out reverse and useing servo brakes. With a Neu 1512/1.5D/F motor with the Max Amps 10000 or the 8000 mAh 5 cell lipo battery with 6mm Schulze connectors (buy some extra connectors for the charger and 3 more for the motor) then the Cell Pro 6s charger. I also prefer to run a separate battery for the electronics. Max Amps make a 2200 mAh 2 cell lipo with a voltage regulator set for 6 volts that will run all day for about $60. Just tell them to make the one they make for Michael in Florida and they do international shipping. As a matter of fact if you plan this right you can have all your stuffed you get from the states drop shipped to Max Amps and they will box it all together and save you on shipping to Japan. I did this with a conversion kit I sent to Aus to a client there.

thanks for the insight guys, looks like an inferno road conversion is the way to go, plus the gear RURC suggested.....45min, oustanding...im used to 4 - 5min runs (but then, last time i was into rc was 1200mh packs
)
do I need to upgrade the car much? ie, highspeed bearings / metal arms etc.
dont need reverse, so I guess that means I use the brake system already there? or do I need to install a new one because the motor might take up that area?
