This seems like a no brainer to me, but I'm still nitro-tarded so I wanted a second opinion. I have a Hyper 7 buggy with a Hyper .21 engine in it that runs pretty well. I also have an Axial .28 Spec 1 in an XTM Mammoth that is waiting on a new spur gear (I hear this is a very common thing to have). My question is would it be worth slapping the Axial engine in the Hyper 7? I've read that .21 engines are better because of the higher RPMs but I don't race, just bash. I know the Axial in my Savage is bad ass, thought it might be fun to see one in my buggy. If I do swap it, is there anything i need to be wary of? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nothing to worry about, it's a direct swap, BUT, I am of the school of thought that buggies should have .21s and truggies/monsterst he 'bigger' blocks. The thing is the buggy is so light you might find the Axial a bit too much. If I was you, I'd keep the axial in the monster and consider a better .21 when the Hyper wears out. The Hyper .21 8 port is a highly underrated motor. With a decent low end pipe, you can get good torque from them and they rev to the moon. You mya find yourself disappointed by the top end from the Axial, but I haven't used that motor, so I can't be sure. Just my 2c. In any case, yeh, you should be able to swap 'em straight out. Give it a try, won't cost you anything.

For just bashing around, I'd say the .28 will probably be more fun than the .21...especially if the Hyper is the 8-port version as the bigger motor *should* have significantly more torque. Somone correct me if I am wrong on that as I have never owned a .28, just gathered it from reading here. More torque=more wheelspin=more fun. On the track though, I'll take my little Thunder Tigre .21 over the baddest .28 on the planet.

I agree with flatspunout. I put an STS .30 in my Ultra LX Pro and it's SOOO much better than the .25 that came with it. Altho you'll get more higher RPMs with most of the aftermarket .21s out there it's good to have torque too. I'm currently looking for a powerhouse for the massive XLB I have.

The biggest draw back I see with bigger engines is they use way more fuel. Now if all you bash no problem but even if you only club race what you might gain form a bigger engine you will lose pitting. My 21 have all the power I will ever need on the track.

I agree with you, but I'm sure I'll be smiling when I see how it pulls down the straight. I may still get a .21 for racing, but I've wanted a mental .28 for this truggy since I first saw it. In the meantime, I'll just have to drive that little bit better to make up for the pitstops.

That's kind of what I was thinking, thanks for all the responses! It's just bashing so fuel efficiency isn't an issue for me. I'll slap it in there this weekend and let you know how it goes.
