I have 2 STS D21B engines and I am well pleased. I all so have the STS 28 and the STS D21T MII. They are a little of a pain to break in do to the thigh pinch they have and I recommend pre heating the engine before starting during break in. One of my 2 D21B I have well over 5 gallons on it. I hate the fact OS quite making the RG as I am not crazy about the new VG. I will say the STS D21B will have no problem out running either the RG or VG.

Mine do unless there is a big weather change but any engine will need a little twicking then.

If you liked your RG then the nearest thing to it is the thunder tiger pro .21.
Very similar in characteristics to the RG.
STS engines are fast for budget engines as are Go tech and SH and its derivatives (Nosram, LRP etc).
You wont go far wrong with any of these.

My STS poohed all over itself at the two gallon mark, like most said it would. It was a RB modded engine, I wont do business with either from now on. Yes, I did did break it in per the directions, and I kept the rpms down for about 1 gallon.
I just bought a GO Tech 5 port, and so far it is great. RC Compund had them on sale for under $180. I am only at the 1 gallon mark, so it is still very new. Without a full performance tune, it is making great power.

I have some STS engines with over 5 gallons on them still running great. The D21E is a 3 port and the D21B is a five port and a stronger engine.

which STS did you have?
The new one, the MKII .21
The carb was horrible too. It was near impossible to get my linkage setup, as the carb hangs up on return, there never was a smooth setup. I spent hours turning the carb and the ball end, I put the old Mach427 and no problems at the carb, my new GO engine was a breeze to setup too. Read the STS thread, I am not the only one with a carb complaint. Longevity issues aside, if you add a $30-40 carb to the $200 and all of your savings are gone.

I never ran the E only the B and have a D21T MKII I have not broke in yet but plain on starting next race session with it. As far as idling being I race sanction and races that go by sanction rules I have a return spring on my throttle arm which which is a good idea no matter what.

I agree with Jammin Jake, It's a great value motor. However, don't get the three port version from amainhobbies. Ask your local hobby shop about the six port version. It's the same price, but more powerful. I myself have a Novarossi BF 6 port and am very pleased with it.

Child labor........ j/k

Production cost in China/Taiwan is lower than Italy for example. Another thing is that they are not a well known 'name' brand and can't sell an engine priced at $300. Nobody would buy it.
Once they establish their name and it gets really popular and recognized just like OS, RB, Nova and so on they could and probably will bump up the prize.

I guess for the same reason the Thunder Tiger, OS VG as well as the older RG, Novarossi .21 bf and many others engines are inexpensive. [X(][X(][X(] I am sure the higher dollar engines most of the cost if for the name.
