Hello,
I am totally new to the sport and posted a couple weeks back regarding what kind of vehicle to get. I think I am going to buy a "Kit" so I don't have to immediately replace controller, servos, parts, etc. My question this time around is, What is the best and most afforadable servos needed for racing? Again, I am TOTALLY new to this and have no idea what I am looking at/for. I think I am needing two different servos, one for the steering and one for gas/brake? Any help would be appreciated. I am wanting to get something right away, but want to know everyones opinion. Thanks and sorry to being such jackass on the subject. Thanks
Blake

Thanks for the reply. I would assume the Analog series would be just fine for me. What is the need for the Digital Series? I just want a decent set of servos maybe spending 50-60 dollars?

for steering you want a metal geared servo with hi torque so that you won't strip it. depending on what you are doing with it will determin the specs you'll need. for racing you'll want a fast transit time (less than .13) and high torque (120 oz in or more) for stearing. throttle can be a less spec for speed, but you will need torque for braking. Ace make good servos that have lasted a while at the track I race at. I run Hitec servos (the 59 series, not the 6 series) and have had good success with them. with servos you DO get what you pay for, buy the best you can afford.

I just ordered the ACE DS1313 for steering last night, and a hitec HS-965MG for throttle.. I don't think super speedy for throttle is needed, but you do want some torque for the brakes. I could have probably bought a lesser servo for the throttle/brake, but it was late and I tend to let myself spend too much.
get something with 130+oz for steering at least, and 100+oz for throttle..
btw, for comparison sake, the RTR servos in many cars are on the order of 40-50oz, and .20s + transit time.. at least in my ofna they were.. same kind of servos come with most separate radios too, if you buy the servos as part of the package. the cars that come with a spektrum radio come with a bit better servos.

A good cheap servo on the budget is the Futaba S3305 for $35.
Some might say it's too slow for steering but I've tried it and it's definately sufficient. Perfect for honing your skills and it holds up very well.
Considering some racers actually reduce the servo speed on the radio I think this is great value for money.
