lower center of gravity.

however stand-up servos can be moved closer to the centerline of the vehicle (rc8, losi 8ight) and improve handling

What is this "laydown" and "stand-up" servos that you just said? Is there any difference? I don't know. Please, post some pictures or something to understand better

Has anyone had problems with engine vibrations killing servos? The close coupling of laydown mounts look like they'd transmit vibration really well.

To absorb the vibration we usually use some plastic material that we can buy from hobby shops and usually is in the package with the servo you're buying. It does very good job, but on the other hand, why are you having vibration problems that they are capable of killing servos? The only killed servo i had, it was in my plane when that crashed (fortunately, i assembly it again as well as was, but the aileron servo killed, so i change it). Is your engine suffer from horrible vibrations??? []

I'm not having any problems or horrible vibrations, largely due to the fact that don't have an engine in the car yet. Usually electronics in nitro powered RC models are protected with some degree of vibration isolation. I didn't notice any protective measures in place for the laydown servo in the picture that digifox linked for us. I guess it's mainly just a curiosity thing.

Yeah, i think there isn't any, but i have horrible vibrations too when i'm running, and i have servos cost 120$ (the hobby shop cut my head [:@]) on, and they doing just fine as for now. How you kill your servo?

I have been running a lay down servo in my Hyper 8 for well over 9 gallons with out any problems. I am running the rubber bushings.

Normally you'd fit the rubber grommets in the 4 screw holes on the servo case and that's all the protection you need. The Hyper 7s Laydown though is the worst design ever. Having to remove either the whole tray or the tank and splashguard to gain access. That set-up just pure p155es on my bonfire.

I think I'll install some grommets / bushings for mine, just to play it safe.
