I've got both and the Hyper 8 is a f--- load better thasn the Hyper 7 which is still a decent buggy, but it's getting on.
Both for racing and bashing the Hyper 8 is both better handling and stronger.
Avoid RTR though, the Macstar .28 they come with is not very good, they have rubbish AM radios and gutless servos.
Go to Ofnas or Hobaos site and rear the differences, theres quite a lot.

Hyper 7 old model Hyper 8 newer model and Hyper 8.5 the latest model. Now would you rather have a 1999 1 to 1 car or a 2008? All the Hyper buggies are a good buggy just depends if you want the old version or the newer version. Yes the newer versions are better as far as up to date but all of them are very durable. For bashing and some club racing does not really matter. Now for serious racing it is a different story.

I bought a Hyper 7 6 months before the H8 was launched. I was pretty pissed at the time, but its been a great buggy. If I was buying now i'd get the Hyper 8.5, but to be honest the are all pretty much bullet proof.
The hyper range to me offers the best value for money and durability out there. Spares are also plentiful and cheap.
TBH you can't go wrong.
I would always get the pro version though if you can stretch to it.

I know what you mean as my Hyper 8 Pro has WELL over 9 gallons on it fact be know more like 12 or 13 and I have wrecked every way possible at least 100 times each and have broken VERY little. I like my Hyper 8 Pro so much I just started breaking in my new Hyper 8.5 today.

I would not say all Hyper RTR are bad! Have you taken a good look at the 8.5 RTR, which I agree a RTR is not the best no matter what brand but the 8.5 RTR looks better then the other Hyper RTR.
