I'm fairly new to r/c have a couple truggies. My son wants to get a buggy & has found a used kyosho inferno w/gxr.28 motor for a good price. Are they good ? any problems to look for ? I want his first car to be good so he won't loose interest. Any help would be great. Thanks

Well it's my 18 year old son. He found the car for $200.00 but i didn't ask what his budget is. He's 18 so i would say not much. I just thought kyosho for 200 bucks was pretty good. motor 1 1/2 gallons old.

The only other things I recommend you buy are a fail safe, and a temperature gun. Duratrax makes a pretty good one for only $25, and for about $23 the Ofna Micro fail safe is fine.
It seems like a lot of investments, but these devices can help prevent mistakes, or accidents that could damage your buggy, and will be very worth it in the long run.

Yeah , I am starting to race a truggy & he wants to race a buggy So i have the support equipment he'll need. He races motocross & i spend about 12k a year on that so if he wants 2 hobbies he will have to pay for 1. What do you guys think about a kyosho inferno. I found a really nice used one for 250.00. Has a pico .27 just broke in & FM radio. The chassis looks really clean.

I think you could get used MUGEN MBX5R now that the Mugen MBX6's are hitting the shelves next month. I would wait one month and scour Ebay for used Mugens. The MBX5R would be a great first buggy used or not. Also check out the RB sport motors like the S3 and S5, those are budget race motors that will last through the learning curve.
If it must be new.. this is the best bang for the buck RTR buggy with motor.

If you can spend just a bit more here is the pro version.

I would recommend saving until he has enough to purchase a Losi RTR or race roller, this is a big step up and more of a real race buggy. Here is a sale I found on the race roller, not sure how long it will last...

If you spend just over 400 bucks then also check out the Caster Racing ZX-R. One of the best built RTR's out there maybe besides the Losi 8 but just because of radio gear. Here is a link

I would also suggest buying a used GOOD buggy. Buying a roller and adding our own motor will give your son a better experience. He already has a racing background and would appreciate a quality buggy more than some new to racing. Also check out the Xray XB8 EC, the new 808 just came out so everyone is selling their EC to get the new one. Great car and never breaks!

O.k. guys i am going to give him a couple bucks to help & we have narrowed down to the cl-1 or hyper 7 . I have a good set of servos & an fm computer radio. we're leaning towards the hyper 7 mainly because i can get one from towerhobbies w/ $25.00 off coupon which would bring it to 275 bucks but if the cl-1 is a better buggy we'll buy it. They both seem like good buggies for the money. what do you guys think? Thanks for all your help.

CL-1 all the way if choosing from your 2. Much more of a racing buggy and is a current racing platform that GS is using now with there team drivers.
