So my heart is set on a O.S. engine, but I here a lot of negative comments about them. The GO engines are less in price? Are they really any good?. What about a GRP engine. A little more in price? For someone that is new to racing and isn't new to tuning engines, what the heck to do. I guess a budget for an engine isn't an issue ($0-350) but what the heck. I have a Losi 8ight(just built) with no engine and don't know what to do? Is there a simple answer to which engine I should at least try or will I always here all the negatives.? Name one that has been good for you. (Sorry, I mean outstanding)!!!!!!!! For someone fairly new that has some engine tuning experience> Thanks Ken

Check to see if your track enforces the .21 in a buggy or not. I think it is always better to have two slightly cheaper engines than one really good one for racing. A spare to swap in or for parts is always nice to keep you going at the track. Some tracks are tighter and more technical that are better for higher torque engines and other tracks are more open that are better for higher revving engines.
If you want to race, you don't need an excuse to go to your local track. Hop over for a race or practice day and see what guys are running. You will probably find only a handful of engines being run at any particular track.

I have a GRP .21 tuned engine in a x1cr & it is great, tuned it new & have not touched it yet. I also have a rb concepts c6 in my jammin truggy & it has been good but the c6 would be too much engine for a buggy. There is a guy that runs the rb s3 in a losi 8ight & it performs well allthough i would prob. step up to the s5 or ws7. I would recommend getting a turbo plug engine, they seem to be easier to tune & run better at low speed. The os vspec is also a good engine & is better on fuel. Hope i haven't blown your mind. Oh , i have seen lots of problems from the GO tech engines they only last about 1 gallon & then blow to pieces.

If you keep asking for everyone else's opinion on motors, you'll never get that thing moving.

Yes, there is a simple answer. Pick one! And yes, you will ALWAYS hear negatives. For whatever reason, there will always be somebody who has something bad to say about an engine. In case you hadn't noticed, the internet in is full of know-it-alls. You like OS? Get the V-Spec. It's probably one of the most popular mills on the market.

Thanks guys. Those are the answers I wanted to here. (Just pick one). I am tired of reading about everyones good and bad opinions about one engine or another, although it is helpfull at times!!!. I will find out for myself. O.S. v-spec it is. Can someone please verify for me that this is the motor that will fit in my Losi 8ight kit with a starter box. I don't know what the T and the (P) mean in the name of the motor. I don't want to order something that isn't fit for my buggy. Thanks. http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/6008

That is the correct engine. Do you have the race roller or the RTR? If you have the RTR, you'll need a new engine mount. I would recommend this one because it will stiffen the chassis up some and it allows you to yank the motor without having to fiddle with the mesh when you put it back in:

To be completely honest you would be hard pushed to pick up a crappy engine at $300+
I personally would have gone with a GRP, but the V-spec is a great engine too.
You only really need to worry when buying in the budget range.

If you go with the V-Spec keep your eye on the front bearing. I own two V-Specs and like them but after about a gallon of fuel the first engine it would run lean after warming up, it was about a gallon and a half on the second engine before it started. It took me a little while to figure out what the problem was, I replaced the front and rear with ceramic bearings on both engines and have had no problems with either and have probably 6 gallons on the first and three gallons on the second. The rear bearing didn't need replacing but I was already there, and they both seem to run better and rev a little higher with the new rear bearing.

I put around 4 gallons on my V Spec and bought it use so I do not know how many gallons was on it before I got it before I put bearings in it.
If I where going to get a new engine right now I would look hard at the Picco .21 P7R EVO 3!

Go's are amazing engines...but not for newbies or for people who post questions like "what engine should I get." Buy an OS V-Spec, great support, service etc.

Iv been reading your thread and have to throw my prime race engine in here. I have seen a lot of fellas switch from the orion engines to grp and them guys seem to just be stacking up everyday. Iv been going from engine to engine for about a year now just like a lot of guys around here and now with 2 gallons in my turbo plug s5 l2g(no mods) its keeping up with .28's (fresh rtr 28's nothing too fancy)easy with great run time 11-12 minutes which is amazing all in its self. I keep on looking back at my vspec and hear guys say how convenient it is to tune them and they are good till they blow at 5 gallons, and thats fine too but you say you can tune and a little bit of that is good on an rb. so id stick with an rb or a no doubt tuned grp with matching pipe if your pocket book can take it. $400 2 yer door is a great price for that promo kit and its hard to find a bad word about a tuned grp...
