Default Question About Using A Rubber Band

Does anyone have a link to a picture showing how to use a rubber band in place of the spring that wraps around the moter to the throtle. From recommendation at the hobby shop my spring that was equipped for safety in case the throtle sticks was removed. It wat getting in the way so much that my buggy was having trouble going from idle to gas when the the throtle was touched on the reciever. I was told that a rubber band works a lot better than the spring. I just dont know where to place the rubber band and I cannot remember where the spring was origianlly attahced. I have a Losi 8 RTR. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't reccomend a throttle band...you got 2.4...so in reality you dont have much to worry about...Just dont let the battery pack die and you'll be good to go.

Default RE: Question About Using A Rubber Band

2.4 wont help if the ball end of the linkage becomes disconnected. IMO, a throttle band (redundant) is as important as using a throttle return spring (primary).
A throttle return spring should be arranged as to return the throttle servo (overcome drag) w/ linkage to the idle position if a power failure occurs.
As redundancy, a throttle band (wrapped around the ball end and carb body) is to return the carb to idle should the linkage pop off the carb's ball end, say during a heavy hit or crash.

Your Hobby shop needs a new mechanic! Rubber bands are used in wind up balsa airplanes and to snap girls behinds oops I almost forgot, they also hold the wings on some RC airplanes [:-]

Default RE: Question About Using A Rubber Band

the band goes around the hsn casing, around the whole carb and over the ball end of the slider, then around the front below the idle screw. i use 4 small finger sized hair rubberbands instead of one big one cause every couple races one snaps, i still have 3 then. if the one big band snaps you have none. i also don't use the spring in the throttle linkageand let the bands do all the work, less force on the servo while braking.

you can not rely 100% on failsafe, batteries come unplugged, batteries go bad, linkages come off, servos go bad, servo screws fall off. too much can go wrong and with the 4 bands its plenty strong to set it back at idle. no problems this way in over a year of racing.

Most TRS Are way too stiff...and normally cause the carb to bind up......especially when the ball is not in the 12 O clock position....i also would not recommend a TRS.

How about not posting misleading information?

Here. The cheapest safety money can buy. Much better than springs.

You definately should run a rubber band. I'm not sure why Integra wouldn't recommend running one. He is pretty awesome though, so maybe im wrong

Why?
The failsafe isn't going to help if the servo horn or ball end pops off the throttle.
It will take care of a low Rx battery.

Why go elsewhere when you were wrong on both accounts in your post?

First thing I did on my 8 RTR is dump the spring (oem servo was busting a nut to pull it) and put 4 Carb O's bands from the fuel line stem to slider ball. Working great for 2 years now. I do have the ball at about 3 o clock though.

OK people, back up a step here. Lets not get out the asbestos suits, and please keep things civil.

Me? I would never run without some sort of throttle return. Ever. Plastic, rubber, metal, whatever. Especially off road where everything gets hammered non stop.
If it pulls the carb closed when it needs to that is the main thing that matters.

Really don`t need a pic as it`s very simple . Put the band around the carb body and on the slide right next to the ball end .

Yup, been on there 2 years, pulled 3 servo's back that quit during racing. I haven't opened the bag of carb "o's" since I bought them. Granted I don't race in the winter so if your a year round person, it's only one year on them. Less weight than a spring also.
